Show us your Technics stuff

I hooked my son up with an older Technics integrated amp (SU-Z760). I bought it off of Ebay and only had to replace the faulty power switch. A local electronics store actually had the exact replacement switch. I then bought him the matching tuner. I really miss my first amp which was an SU-V2. I used to crank that thing up to some Jeff Beck and Jan Hammer Live "Freeway Jam" and it was solid. I miss that New Class A stuff that they made in the late 70s. Solid stuff for sure.

My 8077 comes in on the 28th! Its going directly into the good old Andrew's Electronics refurbishing process. It's labor intensive and pics will be provided...get your popcorn out

I found a couple of vintage Technics audio components last weekend on the local Craigs List. Decided to investigate and found these two items - and an old BSR (I know) turntable. The tuner is the well regarded ST-8600 and the integrated amp is the SU-7700 with 60wpc. The tuner works very well considering I'm in the desert - literally. Very few stations to tune in. I have an outside FM antenna that works pretty good. The AM side works great off the dipole antenna built in. The amp had to be taken to a repair place. I got the call today - it'll cost $20 in parts and $80 for labor to get it back to working condition. It blew a couple of caps and took out a couple of the final stage transistors on one channel and prevented the protection circuit from kicking juice to the speaker terminals according to the repair guy.
Not a bad haul for $60 - plus $100 for the repair. I should have it all up and running in a week. I'll be using a pair of Emotiva ERM-1s with it along with the turntable and a 12" DIY sub in a spare room. Gonna listen to some old school music if I can find some suitable vinyl to spin up. Or maybe just some CDs. Depends on how the turntable works out.

The tuner weighs 22 pounds - the amp 24 pounds. The tuner is wider than the amp by an inch on either side. They aren't actually stable mates but they are close enough that I doubt most people will notice and I don't mind. Can't wait to get this set up and working.

I put together a SU-7700 and ST-7600 combo together for my Mom to be able to receive weak FM in the mountains and a Nakamichi CD Musicbank for all day listening.

The speakers are doing garage duty. After a recap of the crossovers they have a surprisingly accurate and smooth midrange and high end. Bass is good but does not go very low- maybe 42Hz.

Wow. Some beautiful equipment here! I've always had a special interest in this brand as my first real receiver was a Technics.
As a receiver collector, I now only keep the more unusual units, and sell the standard ones. The bronze faced series aren't that common, but the SA-401 is definitely hard to find. I'd be interested to hear from those of you who have any of these particular units.
