Shrill sound from a NOS Stylus

Hi FMs

I am from India. Here EEI 700 phono MM cartridges were rage in 70s n 80s

I have recently gotten my hands on a NOS replacement stylus from EEI.

It was sealed packed. When I put it on cart and played, it sounds too shrill and has very prominent mids.

The stylus is matched replacement part. No compatiblity issues here.

Other aftermarket stylus is playing just fine.

What could be the reason ?

stiff cantilever ?

Please throw some light.

Could be a dried or hardened suspension. Or, it could be that it requires a bit of time to settle in.
 
Some have tried a drop of oil (WD-40, not sure if that exists in India) on the suspension donut, there are threads here on it, so if you search will get some results. I've not done it so I can't guide you through the process. Good luck.
