Shuguang vs. Yaqin

I just bought the MC-30L with the blue glass tube upgrade on the gon. This thing is a beast and is driving my Polk SDA 2.3tls with plenty of power to spare. Absolutely love it

That's a good looking amp. I own a Yaqin pre I've been very happy with but I'm still leaning toward the Shuguang with it's point to point wiring. I don't know enough about the workings of tube amps to know how important this is. My perception is that this is a definite plus.

I'm considering a new tube integrated specifically the Shuguang Classic S8MK or the Yaqin MC-30L. The Shuguang would cost me around $75 to $100 more than the Yaqin.
The Shuguang is a KT 88 integrated, 2 x 50 wpc, ultralinear with point to point wiring. A remote is included.
The Yaqin is an EL34 integrated that puts out 50wpc in ultralinear and 25 wpc in triode. It also comes with a remote and gets bonus points for the headphone jack.
Since I can't hear either unit I have to go by cost, features looks and build quality. Since the cost is close and I like the way both amps look it comes down to build quality and what you guys think of these two. Hopefully someone has heard one or both of them. Thanks for the help.

I have 'NO' hands on knowledge of either Shuguang or Yaqin. Both seem to be two of the more dependable brands from China. I was interested in low price tube integrated amps sold on E-Bay. I bought a 30 watt Meng with EL-34's. To date this amp has been prone to failure. It is sitting on a shelf (repaired) simply because it does not have the sound quality I need.

Cubdog: I believe you're proceeding at the right pace and asking the right questions. Stay the course and do not buy a product like mine on a whim.

I don't know how important it is either. I do know that since I have owned this which is about a month I haven't had a hint of a problem and I have been running it everyday. And it is an extremely quiet amp when with my turntable compared to my Emotiva XPA-2, but it also has 32db of gain so that might be the reason. Also I don't have any experience with the Shuguang so I can't comment on them

My previous tube integrated was an Onix SP3. I was able to hear it at a Rocky Mountain Audio Fest. At that time, and before their sad demise, AV123 was located in Boulder and I lived in Denver. For all their later problems they had a wonderful customer service department. The SP3 is a wonderful sounding amp and I probably should not have sold it. Oh well, it will be fun to try something new but I'm in no hurry. I'll try to make an informed decision.

I've had a few amps over the years, Yaqin MC-10L, Dared 2A3 SET, Latino ST70, Decware, and my current Yaqin MS-300C. I've found the build quality of the Yaqin stuff to be outstanding. Headphone jack and a remote ain't too shabby either.

I don't own either amp that you're asking about but I do own a shuguang s845mk & s200mk combination. The build quality is really good, very solid and nice looking too. I think either shuguang or yaqin is better quality chi-fi.

I'd love that combination. Unfortunately they are out of my current budget.

I have a Yaqin MC-100B and have been quite happy with it. No remote or headphone jack but that wasn't necessarily what I was after. At it's price point, I have no issues with it at all. I'm dipping my toe into the tube rolling thing and enjoying it, I'm not technically inclined so the specifics of the build quality aren't anything that I can comment on but I did take it in to my local shop for an exam before I brought it into my home and they were a little giddy about it. Very much liked seeing and listening to a big tube amp again. It has sufficient power to run my less than totally efficient speakers. If you're simply looking at checking out a tube amp, looking at your choices, just go with what you'd like for convenience sake and enjoy.

My Yaqin MC-30L sounded good with the stock tubes. Swap out the 6J1's with some Mullard CV4010's (about 100 bucks) and you'll have a great sounding amp. Haven't heard the Shuguang but others have stated that they were really happy with it. You won't go wrong with either choice IMHO.

No experience on this subject except to sing the praises of the treasures. Put my quad of 6CA7s back in last night for some listening today. :music:

Jay,
I was thinking about the treasures but went with Svetlana Winged C's. How would the two compare to one another?

I own a Yaqin MC100B KT88 integrated purchased from tabnaac in Canada. It is approx 2 years old. Takes very well to Tube rolling and sounds fantastic to my ears. Pushing JBL L80T3 speakers. :thmbsp:

I think I've decided on the Shuguang. Tough decision but I like the idea of dealing with Grant Fidelity. They kind of seem like family.

Great choice. I'd choose the Shuguang as well. Definitely let us know how it sounds once it comes in. I may also be in the market pretty soon.

Grant Fidelity is a wonderful company to support, especially now as Ian is fighting cancer. I'm sure they could use all the business they can get.

Plus, Shugang had a pinnacle of excellence around the time this amp was designed. A lot of those guys went and started Psvane after.

I is a done deal. I ordered the Shuguang from Grant Fidelity today! I will start a thread, with pictures of course, to review the amp. Money being tight, I ordered the basic stock amp. I can always upgrade later should I choose to do so. Thanks to all for your input.

Sweet! I'm definitely looking forward to your impressions of it vs your Bel Canto monoblocks.

This is something I've considered recently as well and I would also be interested in the comparisons...

That Mesa that was in Barter Town sort of planted the bug and got me thinking...

Its much easier to replace components in a point to point system than it is a PCB based system. Just my experience anyway. One other thing to keep in mind is that PCB amps are laid out to accommodate components of a certain size. You can get away with slightly physically larger components, but you wont have as much choice as you would a point to point system.
