Hey all, I recently aquired a Shure 500s
Stylus is good, tracking it at 1.25 grams and it sounds pretty good, but more of a low mid based sound, the highs and vocals do sound crisp, i think i prefer my AT-VM95EN on an aftermarket headshell, but the 500s sounds good enough. I like having two headshells on my Thorens td-160 so i can swap out carts. There is a certain mid range sparkle that i do like, but overall i think the vm95en wins out. Just curious to hear peoples thoughts.
I thought both carts sounded better than my ancient MA 2002 e
Thanks.

There are a couple of reviews on the internet that are quite informative. You might want to check you loading of the cartridge. Its response should be very flat with a bass roll off below 40 HZ. If not I would say the the cantilever suspension material might have deteriorated. It was the top of the line replacement for the V-15 V MR cartridge. The 500 is a pricey one for sure.
