Shure Cartridge testing

Sound Proof

Well, I bit the bug & bought a Dual 1209 turntable. The seller informed me that the Shure M91E cartridge may need to be replaced. May? So I ask this question: How does one go about testing a Shure cartridge? Is there a DMM test on the leads?

And what other maintenance service should be performed on the TT itself? Does it require a special lubricant?

Very rare that anything goes wrong with a cartridge... stylus yes, cartridge no...

To test the cartridge check the resistance on each channel (between signal and ground pins of each channel) - with your DMM.

I think the official spec is 630ohm, so both channels should read somewhere around that value... production variation means that it could be a bit below 600 or a touch above 660 and still be within spec... but not any further than than...
