I have the opportunity to buy for around 100 dollars one shure stereo phono preamp M64.
Whatever the price (it is not common to find this pre sale) I wonder if compared with pre entry Project, Cambridge, sold new in the range of 100 dollars for moving magnet cartridges,or the phono inputs as receivers like sansui 8080db or sony str 7065 I wonder whether it is worth buying it. Thank's

I wouldn't. It's a very....vintage sounding unit. Fine for some things. IMO very outclassed by the internal phono stages in the units you have, and I would think that the Caimbridge Audio phono stage betters the others you mention.

Thanks for the reply, I have many recorders ( reel to reel) tape head function would be a usable function today? Thank you very much.

Unless you are trying to use the tape transport by itself without any associated electronics, then no. That is meant to bring the signal directly from the playback head up to line level, wheras 99.99% of reel to reel decks have that circuitry built in.

It is a very basic circuit (i own one). It is just OK regarding sound quality.

However, i bet that properly modified (= with much better capacitors and transistors) it could sound much better. It is fully discrete, btw.
