Shure M95ED cartridge Scuff Marks

Hi,

I'm new to vintage hi-fi and just purchased my first ever turntable (a Yamaha YP-211).

It came with a Shure M95ED cartridge which, from my reading here on AK, appears to be a nice vintage cart!

I did notice it has some scuff marks on the bottom where the stylist inserts into the cart. Looks like there is a little metal exposed under the plastic? (see pics below).

Would that have any affect on the sound quality of the cart? Is that just normal wear and tear?

Is there a safe way to clean up the cart on the outside and the headshell (my goal is to restore the TT to new like condition)?

As a newbie who really has nothing to compare sound quality to which stylist would you recommend?

Unless the hole is warped and the stylus doesn’t seat properly, I wouldn’t think scuffing would effect the sound quality

It should be fine. I've had a Shure M91 around here somewhere that looks like the suspension was so low it must have been dragging on the pavement and wore paint off. No problems playing though.

Stylus. My nos Shure M55 ran for about 5 months. The stylus got tired. It caused the cart to rub on the record. Did not hurt how it sounds. Put a replacement on it was good to go.

It's not uncommon to scuff near the hole when inserting a stylus. It has no effect on sound at all.
