Shure V 15 Stylus choices

Personally I would not install a V15 cartridge on a Zero 100. I've tried multiple cartridges from my assortment on the Zero 100's I've had. I was most satisfied with a Shure M93 tracking at 2 grams. Even though I have several, I did not try an M92 but it would likely be OK.

For Zero 100's, my instinct says no to cartridges that track at less than 2 grams

Good Cartridges have gotten quite pricey over the past 6-10 years.
Vintage used too, crazy. Price a clean V-15, or a nice Audio Technica today.

Let's say what a new in box AT-150MLX will cost you?!

Me, I say, go for the TOTL Jico SAS with Boron Cantilever, drop the 2 "beaners", and don't look back.

I'm pretty sure in the end, you won't regret the purchase.

True that. I paid $280 for my NOS V15 type III with NOS stylus. Seemed "reasonable" when comparing to others I saw for sale.

It sure sounds fantastic so I'm not complaining.

Picked up a Zero cheap. Had a ‘V15 type 3. Agree that was a mismatch. Put a M55 on it. Thought the V15 would work well on my Dual 1219 with a Jico HE. The 55 works well on the Zero. Miss it. Gave to a friend.

Hello - I also recently obtained a Zero 100 - the sound is "okay" - did you get a new cartridge/stylus, and if so, did that make a difference? I am very curious which one you selected, since I am reading that owing to the heavier arm, one has to make sure the right ones are selected. A newbie here, and just looking to see how I can make my TT experience better.

I never changed the cartridge. It has a Shure 95EE (I think) and it sounds very good so I never screwed with it.

I’ve used several high compliance styli on my Z100s (3). First, your tonearm bearings (articulating arm and pivot bearings) have to be properly adjusted. Second, your auto mechanisms have to be clean and properly lubricated.

3rd, don’t use the sliding weight on the tonearm. Set it to zero. Use the counterweight only to set VTF, and verify with a digital scale.

I’ve had no issues using the M97HE, V15VxMR, ADC XLM MKII, that want 1.0-1.2 grams VTF. The Zero arm takes away undue side forces on the cantilever, and the magnetic AS works extremely well. Even my Jico VN5xMR stylus likes it! I’ve found the Garrard Z100 to be a delightful table, when optimized. I only need 0.8 grams to trigger the return.

When I got my first Z100, it had a Pickering XV15 400 cart on it. It worked well. But I found after refurbishing the table, it was much more capable than factory assembly and lube allowed.
