Shure V15 and Shure M97

Hi, everybody! Just got a Technics SL-1300 with Shure V15 TYPE IV with a broken needle. I have another Shure M97 with an n97B needle which is sounding pretty good.Both styluses are looking absolutely same, so im wondering if is it worth the time to replace the n97b stylus to Shure v15. Any experience with it? Im just wondering what is the difference between M97 and V15, what cartridge is higher class. Any help will be really appreciated!!

The M97 and V15 do not share the same stylus shanks. The V15 is smaller, so they are not interchangeable.

They are both excellent cartridges, the V15 type lV was top of the line, M97 was second place but that doesn't mean that the V15 will sound better than the M97 in any turntable. For the Technics SL1300, the M97 is good enough. I would save the V15 for a higher quality turntable.

Another consideration is replacement styli, a cartridge is only as good as the stylus mounted in it.
 
malden, you are damned right!! Thanks for the reply! Do you now any suitable brand and model of a stylus for V15? I just want to check out this legendary cartridge...
 
I have also :Technics SL-D1 and SL-D202, but im not sure they are higher class TT then SL-1300

That's really it's main function. I use a V15-VMR and V15Vx-MR on an SL-1200, the arm of which is probably no better (and no worse) than the arms on the other two Technics on the OP's list at least and probably not the J arm of the Sansui, either.

Yes, a V15 is probably going to be best on an ultra light arm, but I wouldn't buy a turntable with an ultra light arm just to use my V15.

a fine turntable is not necessarily defined by how light or heavy the tone-arm is

certainly not an "ultra-light" tone-arm, yet a fine turntable nonetheless
