Shure v15 iv stylus in type iii body

I just purchased a v15 iv with a new looking MR stylus. The cartridge is open in the right channel. Can I use this stylus in a type iii body?

Reason for asking, Shure specifies the VN35xx styli for replacing VN45xx for the type IV. So it might make sense that the VN45xx could fit in the type III body. Thank you

you can if youre willing to pop the generator out of the mount and put in another mounting cap. ive got my type iii body installed in a v15rs mounting cap and it can accept any v15 stylus.

That will work, the V15 III housing is one of the ugliest Shure produced anyway

not "any"......only III, IV and V will fit and V15 III body

Type I will not

Type II will not

Type RS will not

Type Vx will not

Since the OP has both the V15 III and V15 IV, it should be obvious that the IV stylus will not fit the III body. That said, the bad IV body can be removed from its plastic housing and the good III body can be mounted to it.

Narud, Malden, -That makes perfect sense. It looks pretty straightforward to remove the type III generator body and mount it into the type iv mount. Thank you!

Hey, I always sort of preferred the V-15 III housing to the IV housing. Have a bunch of both, always preferred the sound and look of the type III body.

Both the type III and type IV carts are (IMO) superb and are the only carts I've ever used w/ my AR turntables.

I never needed to fit stylus for cart III into a IV body ... or vice versa ... because I'd amassed a huge collection of NOS original Shure styluses (styli) for both carts.

i wasnt thinking about the large shank v15's. i should have clarified. i dont hear of many people resurrecting type 1 and 2's but thanks for the clarification. swapping the iii and iv generators would definitely be the easiest.

This dead channel type iv cartridge was a bargain because it came with the new MR stylus. My other type iv cartridge sounds fantastic with this stylus. Now just have to find another type iii or iv body so i can use this stylus in a different turntable

Anyone have a working type iii or iv body that they might be interested in selling?

I wish to thank you all for sharing your knowledge about type iv -type iii interchangeability. I took delivery of a healthy type III generator, transplanted it into the type iv body, and this works perfectly with the type iv MR stylus. Thank you!!

I agree myself. I much preferred the V-15 Type III to the IV, I felt the Type IV was overdamped. And when the HE styli for the Type III became available, even better.

Wouldn’t the type iv sound very similar with the damper set in the disabled position? And even better with the VN45MR stylus?
