Shure V15 type III stylus needed recommendations

Someone gave me a Shure V15 type III cartridge with a broken stylus. I'm wondering if it's worth buying an after market stylus for this. If so, what would you recommend. My budget is $25-$75 or so. My main system has a Shure v15 type V with OEM stylus that I really like a lot. I'm wondering what the difference is between these two models.

Would a Shure M97xe stylus work on this cartridge? What would sound better the M97 stylus on the V15 if it fits or the M97 stylus on the cartridge Shure sells now for it?

In my opinion, a Type III won't displace a Type V but there are a lot of people that like that cartridge very much. Its worth a new stylus but a lot of "what stylus to get" depends on what your intentions are. There are some extremely cheap styli available for it but I would not waste time with those. Bare minimum would be something like this...

but even better would be this one right here....

The N97xE will not fit in the V15 type 3 (or any type) body. The V15 (types 3, 4 and 5) have smaller openings that will only accept small shank styli specifically designed for them.

On the other hand, the V15 type Vx and RS cartridges will accept the N97xE stylus

For what it's worth, I've had surprisingly good results from an aftermarket stylus for the Type III (fits my Type IV) from eBay seller andydeals (Anderson Sports LLC). They refer to it, as many sellers do, as a "VN35E", so don't be misled into suspecting that it's an original genuine Shure stylus. For less than $20, it's a very nice stylus and can buy you time while you hunt at your leisure an original E or HE or even MR stylus for your Type III.

If you're searching, many sellers will use the Pfanstiehl code for a genuine stylus, 764-DE, when it should be "4764-DE".
