Sigh... Best instructional video on packing a turntable for shipment?

I received a turntable today from an eBay auction and, sigh, the seller knew nothing about turntables. It's in shambles.

Since I will likely buy another turntable on eBay or someplace where they'll have to ship it, does anyone have a good YouTube video on how to pack a turntable properly before shipping? I'd like to have something to send the next seller before they destroy something this nice....

I had a Sansui SR-717 shipped to me in a large, maybe 20x20x20 cube. Filled with newspaper. Couldn't believe it made it safely. Luckily the seller did put the platter underneath the TT.

I like to put the platter in to an LP mailer with bubble wrap. Put it underneath the TT. Use .75" polystyrene sheets to snuggle secure the TT on all sides ... then I use another small box to put all the tonearm pieces in, this box is then secured in such a way on top of the spindle or platter. This box must be taller than the height of the tonearm -- as it prevents the tonearm from coming in to contact with the top of the box or the TT from tipping up in the shipping box and coming in to contact with the top of the shipping box. In my experience it's unnecessary to double box, especially if you use high quality boxes. However, I still double box on very valuable/rare/particularly fragile equipment.

I have shipped dozens of TTs this way -- all around the globe. Use the threads another user posted -- they're immensely helpful. Go to businesses and dumpster dive for packing material if you must. Polystyrene foam sheets are expensive -- but they're often just discarded at businesses. I know this thread isn't really asking for advice but I thought I'd share anyways

Wow man.....

What the fukc is wrong with people?
No brains, stupid, lazy etc................. Nothing gets me more upset than someone who sells a turntable on ebay not knowing or taking the time to learn how to pack it for safe shipping. ughhhhhhhhhh. Sorry for your loss. I hope you left this guy negative feedback.

It wasn't my table. I was commenting on the OP.

And I too am sorry for his loss and I also hope the OP gets some sort of satisfaction from this idiot shipper.

So why do you have to buy on eBay? Are you so remote that nothing comes up locally?

You could also get help from AKers who are close to you, or become s subscriber and perhaps buy one with greater confonfidence

I consider myself fortunate, having purchased several turntables and having had them shipped without any mishaps. My first question to the seller has always been "are you aware of the correct way to ship a turntable?"
If there is any doubt I have asked the seller to watch you tube video on proper shipping,it has worked for me.I have usually purchased from sellers that already have know what they are doing.
My latest purchase is being hand delivered;
my daughter and her husband met the seller in Disney and she is driving home today with my new to me VPI Scoutmaster signiture w/Grado sonata.I will start a thread on it sometime later today

I did however once have a seller ship me a 2 cycle snow blower (when I lived up North), and when it arrived I could smell gasoline . Turns out the guy shipped it with fuel in the tank!
How in the world it made it through the postal service remains a mystery to me.

Oh I know it wasn't your table and i hope you don't think my comments were against you. As i was commenting on the sorry state which some sellers packing jobs on ebay.

Exactly! Will you share the URL to the YouTube video? So I and others can do the same? Thanks!

The seller responded with "I paid FedEx extra to pack the turntable, so sorry. I've refunded you 100% and hope I can get most of my money back from FedEx." So there are some good eBay sellers who know how to best recover from a mistake.

none in particular, just do a search on shipping a turntable and you will find plenty of them
