Signet SL-100's? "Value?"

I've not been able to find much info on these, but they are rather rare, and from what an audiophile friend of mine and some folk here have said, Signet knew what they were doing. Additionally, they were on a Stereo Review, IIRC, must have list back in 1993(?).

Any idea how many SL-100 pairs were made? What they're worth in good, not-requiring-repair condition?

I already know to, this afternoon, check for flaky tweeters, as replacements are made of unobtanium.

Of course, I know what pictures do not show, and they're rather limited in frequency range, so I'm headed down there this evening with a handful of very familiar and wide-ranging music to see if they're worth me trying to explain to my wife why I brought home "new" speakers, yet have no place to put them (yet).

Unfortunately, I cannot add any information, but just wanted to comment that they definitely "look" the part of a seriously great speaker.

Noted this is my post 700. ;-)

Thanks, anyway.

I think part of the problem I'm having is there were so few made, they're not common enough to be known.

He's asking $400, so if they're intact, everything works, and look as goods as in the pics, I'll be trying to wedge them, gently, into the back seat of my car.

I've heard them compared to B&W's of the time, and honestly, those were freakin' amazing.

I may have a nice score on my hands!
 
Having picked up some rare Beveridge speakers myself, I can sympathize with you. There was almost zero information available, however, by starting a thread in the speaker forum, over the last couple of months, the community has really added more information than I could have dreamed.

As information came forth, one of the best comments made was that it felt like "Audio Archeology" and that has been quite true. It is what makes this hobby so much fun.

Well, I can say it was a very happy purchase @ $400 for the pair.

They are borderline immaculate. The grilles look new, only the bottom front corner of one has any blemishes, and I noticed that while I was 6" away from it, moving it around in the back of the car.

They sound...well...I can't describe it, yet.

I can say they are rather stout in their build/mass, which I expected, but wasn't ready for.

Looking forward to more reviews as you settle in with them and some pics. You probably want to start a new thread in the speaker forum.

I didn't really have intentions of having a pair of speakers which will likely be dedicated to music, only, but these sound amazing, are in excellent shape, and are rare/good enough to likely never drop in value.

I think the "problem" this guy was having in selling them was nobody had heard of them. I'm just lucky I had a flashback to reading a Stereo Review, or one of those, almost 25 years ago. Around these-here parts, unless it's a well-known brand, forget it.

CERWIN-VEGA! RULEZ!!! (actually, I like them, in the right environment)

He had a large room and most of a garage filled with equipment. He re-surrounds drivers and resells. Does good work, from what I can see. Having done it, myself, I can say it wasn't as easy as I expected.

I need to hit the library, now, to see what I can find in old audio mags.

I will admit, my wife wasn't exactly thrilled with a new set of loudspeakers, but, at least for now, they're going to live just "inside" the Definitive Tech BP2002's which are upstairs, in the dedicated entertainment room. Not perfect placement, but fine for now.

Plus, I want to compare/contrast. I like the Def-Techs, don't get me wrong, but they are better-suited to home-theater.
