silver Philips receiver, value and model number help

I didn't need another received but picked up a Philips AH-784 today at a local thrift. A nice guy that was buying a pair of speakers said I should give it a shot as it probably only needed a fuse. I got it home and it worked fine without touching anything. I cleaned it up and deoxit the pots and it sounds really nice. Went in looking for a few records and walked out with yet another receiver, lol. I have to agree with the glowing review above, this little receive holds it own with several much more expensive receivers I have.

That photo is a 796 and not the the 786. They are the same receivers internally and is the next to TOTL and puts out 45 watts per channel. The difference is the faceplate. (rest of post deleted) .
Long shot here, looking at a Philips ah 7861 in mtl and you say the 78x and 79x are the same inside. Can I pursue this conversation with you? Like the OP I cannot find any info on the tuner section. Regards

hi lejeep, Unfortunately Brian is no longer with us on Ak.

i will say that he had high praise for that series of receivers and owned more than one.
They use to be sleepers and could be had cheap so if you have a chance to get one for a reasonable price i would go for it.

Hello radioactice, thing is I have read some of the praise here on ak. Out on a limb(read lack of specs) I went ahead and purchased model 7861 from Philips. I must say that my first impression is that of a solidly built unit but I am second guessing the tuner performance after a first trial home. The model up from this unit has some nice tuner specs but the one before are mediocre. I was hoping someone had some hands on experience with any of the Philips units for comparison since no specs are available.
Not being a tech, I am wondering if an alingment could help improve sensitivity/selectivity. The symptom I see is that lower fm frequencies are aligned with the scale, but when I tri to dail 106.1 on the scale I get 105.7. Maybe a coincidence but 400Hz difference makes me think of bad selectivity.
Not sure I want to inject 100/200$ more to be told it's just the way it is. Very sad as everything else on this unit looks top shape. Any ideas where I could go from here ? Anyone is welcome to pitch in, I am open to all ideas. Thanks

Hello Radioactive and thanks for responding to my query. Do you know if the fellow jis ust not on ak anymore or can he be reached elsewhere ? Also, I will start a new thread in "general discussion" titled Philips ah 7861 not knowing where else to post that would make sense for my situation. Regards
