Hello everyone! I have this one simple (I guess) question about grounding DIY amps. I have an old Sony amp/receiver that doesn't work. I have also ordered chinese DC power supply and TPA3255 based amp board. So I thought that I could reuse the chassis from the Sony. I want to use IEC connector (from computer with 3 pins). I will be mounting power supply and amp to the bottom plate which is in metal using brass spacers (those that are used for computer motherboards).
The question is: would I be better off wiring just "negative + positive" (cold and hot) 220V AC from the IEC connector to the DC power supply, and be happy? or should I also connect ground pin/cable to the bottom plate? I have never used metal case before in my builds. I see that both boards will have connection between brass connectors and bottom plate. Which means that ground will be pushing around 115V AC and DC power supply will also push 36V DC. I don't have any problem running it without having a ground, but will it be safe to touch the amplifier case under usage?
