Technics Linear tracker, witnessed working model# Sl J1, if i recall...20 bucks, nice stylus, original cart. Worth a go for fun, or pure trash? before i got there he sold 2 gorgeous infinity towers, and a nice Yamaha Natural Sound Amp, but his ad is down, so i cant fetch those model numbers...i know its not a valuable TT, but it was with a guy who really had nice stuff and took nice care of it.

I have both an SL-J1 and an SL-J2. The J2 sits beside my desk and gets the most use. It's my everyday table. The J-1 is in our future retirement home so not so much use. I've had the J2 since 1982, I believe. Very reliable table. The J1 was given to me by someone who didn't even know if it worked. He just wanted it gone. I took it home and cleaned and lubed it, very easy to work on, and it runs like a champ. I certainly wouldn't hesitate to grab it.

If you like it, there is nothing in particular wrong with this model. However, do not make the mistake of assuming this particular Technics linear tracker is in the same category as the other linear trackers such as the SL-5 or SL-6. To be more specific the J1 has a rumble rating of -70 dB whereas the SL-5 is -78. There are other differences as well. If it were me, I would pass.
 
I love the variety of opinion! i have to pass on the six pack, unless its Pop, cuz my meds say no to alcheyhawl. i'll think about it...may just save it for more records, or who knows...for the days i cant get around so good, i've taped many of my LPs so i can listen to the album at one go, and auto shutoff...and my NAD even has a gigantic remote. No auto reverse, but for those days... or for drifting off, they are fine...otherwise, Music Hall.
