Single-driver curious...... (Alpair 12P questions)

Hi all,

I've become really interested in single-drive speakers recently. I've got a chance to grab a pre-built L/C/R set of Alpair 12P Super Pensil Speakers locally and am tempted to do so.

I currently have a pair of Sony SS-TL5 speakers, which I consider some of the best I've ever heard. However, they're rear-ported and have always been a pain to properly place in my rec room (can't be too far from the wall without creating a tripping hazard). Also, they're a little fugly and don't really go with the rest of the room.

So, questions:

1) Are these cut out for a large (25x23x11) room? My listening setup is biased toward a side, and realistically the actual listening space is more like 12x15, but the room itself was previously an unfinished garage and is quite cavernous.

2) Is there any kind of reasoning behind a single driver speaker over a 3-way? Weirdly, I don't think I've ever heard a larger, single-driver speaker before.

3) I have a decent 12" Infinity Sub. I'm assuming a subwoofer with single-driver speakers is fine?
