Skin care!

G'day all, ok this thread might get a trifle embarassing but I think it is important! As I am a child of the 1970's when nobody cared about sunburn and later skin damage, skin cancers and all that, which now affect me, in recent years I've been getting in touch with my 'feminine' side and I now adopt a fairly routine program of (facial, mainly) skin care.

Most of this is basically cosmetic, but I'm hoping that it will remediate some of the sun induced skin damage. I've had enough of skin cancer creams like Aldara and Efudex!

I use a 'beauty' soap (Dove..yes I do). I exfoliate several times a week and I do use a good moisturiser. At least my skin 'looks' better. :D Australia (and especially North Queensland, where I live), is unfortunately the melanoma capital of the world. I have actually had a friend who died of Melanoma. So I'm trying to do the right thing with skin care! Regards, Felix aka catman.

I think you are good to go, then! I have allergic and dry skin and I find that Dove is very drying. I use an olive oil based soap, called "Kiss My Face" that is much less drying. It's made in Greece and is sold in the USA, so possibly it's available in Australia.

I would also recommend having your Vitamin D levels checked. Vitamin D levels seem to be inversely related to the incidence of melanoma (and other cancers).

There is also a reasonable amount of evidence that melanoma is not directly related to sun exposure, but rather UV-A exposure so that is important to use a Sunscreen that also blocks UV-A.

http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/health-conditions/cancer/melanoma/ gives more info.

P.S. If you google it, you may see them listed in Quackwatch. Stephen Barrett who runs that website basically throws everybody under the bus who isn't rigidly mainstream. Read it with an open mind and don't be afraid to the check the references listed.

They have Dove for Men now. I use the bars and the body wash. works well as I get very dry skin stocking shelves in a store that turns stuff off at night
