I bought an SL-1200 mk2 in a bundle of audio equipment along with an SL-1700 Mk1. The 1700 plays perfectly, but the 1200 has been skipping on the same records. It’s got a new cartridge/stylus and it’s set level. the stylus is set to the recommended tracking force. I’ve tried adjusting the anti skate as well. The records skip right in the same area, about an inch and a half into the record. So I’m at a loss for what the problem is, but I can see when I move the tone arm through it’s range of motion, without setting it on the record, the location where I usually get skipping is where the tone arm wants to swing outward...everywhere outside of this one to two inch span the tone arm sits static/still in the place I let go. It’s almost like there’s a wire or something pulling on it from under the chassis, but it’s only pulling at a certain part of the motion. I’m quite hesitant to take it apart since I accidentally destroyed the last turntable I tried to repair lol. Just thought I’d tap the knowledge pool here to see if there’s anything I’m overlooking, or if anyone has had similar problems. Thanks.
