SL-1100-SL-1700 owners club

Sorry, I was a little quick in my response. Currently it has an Audio Technica VM95SH/H dual moving magnet. It needs to be turned way up on the Luxman setup as well as any other set up I have.

I've tried my other Stanton cartridges too. Same thing; need to turn the volume way up.

I just picked up a near mint SL-1300. Box, manual, overhang gauge, head-shell, dust cover - all in perfect shape. Has a decent Shure M91ED mounted in the original head-shell, and came with an MA QDC-1 E (bonus surprise - I posted another thread about that) cart that I mounted in an AT head-shell. Love it, my first Technics - very happy that I get somewhat the build/looks of a 1200, but with the automatic functions that I like while listening during work. Even the funny memory/repeat function works.

New member here but joined for this thread.

Just picked up a restored SL-1400 Mk1 yesterday for a decent price and so far it sounds great. :D I was lusting after the new Technics SL-1500C but couldn't resist a fully automatic vintage model when it popped up as a suggested alternative on the local equivalent of craigslist.

There is a new Audio-Technica VM540SL cartridge on its way here. The original feet were completely flattened so it was just standing on its chassis. I tried looking at replacement feet (and even the gorgeous MNPCtech walnut isolation platform but most of that was just too expensive or ugly... so I splurged on the Isonoe feet.

Fairly affordable from the UK but Brexit means it will probably be a while before they arrive.

Here are some old pics of my current setup;

More pics later!

It's a Reloop brand cover off of Amazon. Someone recommended it on here a few years back. Unfortunately, I don't recall what model it is.

Even better, the SL-1200 Mk 7 dust cover. Encompass Parts or KABUSA.com can get you one. I bought mine from KABUSA. I am using my new dust cover on a SL-1200 Mk II. My SL-1300 and SL-1500 have excellent condition original dust covers.

Recently found my box of albums in storage, so decided to look for a decent turntable to start spinning again. Right off the bat, found a cheap, scraggly, SL-1500 ... tonearm tube broken off, no dustcover, small dent in a corner of the plinth ... just my type! It followed me home. :) At the same time, also acquired a couple of salvaged Rega RB-250 tonearms (one wired, one not) and what appears to be a tonearm from a Kenwood KD-2070/3070/5070. The Rega's look a little bit scruffy, but seem functionally OK. One of them has holes drilled all along the length ... not sure if it came that way from the factory or was a custom mod, although I'm leaning toward custom mod. (No, it's not from Michell Engineering ... drats!). Anyway, the 1500 is going to become my "project" table. Can't wait to get started!

As luck would have it, also picked up two other working tables recently: SL-1700 and a Pioneer PL-50.
Right now, I feel like Marvin Dorfler in Midnight Run when he says " Am I lucky, or am I just good?" LOL

Looking forward to sharing my experiences with my "project" 1500.

A tonearm mounting board, some labor installing it, you can install one of your Rega arms on your SL-1500 (and pre-drilled for Rega's available) and Bob's your uncle. You would have a nice turntable out of that project.

And here are some more pictures from my updated setup. (posted the rest of the gearlist in my introduction thread). My small, but growing, music collection can be found on Discogs.

Like I said in my previous post, the original feet were gone so they are currently replaced by a set of xxxxxxxx
In the meantime I replaced the screwholes with four foot nut inserts for the 1200-series so I can install the Isonoe more easily.
The cables seem relatively thick and new compared to some of the other pictures I've seen so there is a good chance somebody replaced them in the past.

I really like what you did there with the Foot Nut Insert
Yeah, when I came across those I had to have them. They're relatively cheap to add but add a ton of functionality. First thing that happened when I removed the original feet is dropping the tiny nut on the inside.
Should make height adjustments a lot easier too!

Still waiting for the feet to arrive but since the Isonoe feet use ball bearings underneath it was probably a good idea to put something hard and solid underneath. Isonoe uses sorbothane feet with glass inserts but I think I can do it cheaper with a marble cutting board. ;)

First improvements are a much deeper bass than with the turntable on top of the cabinet so that's a win in my book. Not bad for €20. I know the theory is to dampen with more or equal mass to minimize the vibrations travelling through but 5.05 KG (11.11 lb.) seems to have made a difference already.
For those curious, I used this 30x40cm cutting board.

My first turntable was a SL-1600 MKII that I bought new in 1979 as a kid in the Marine Corps (Okinawa Japan). Foolishly sold it in 1999 or 2000 since it was acting up. Didn't realize it's value or there were tech's within a 100 mile radius who would of fixed it for pennies. Whine...... But did purchase last year a new Technics SL-1500c (silver) TT last year that I'm very pleased with to say the least.
