It has VTA adjustments, with the original SL-1500 arm, I got different thickness mats to compensate.

Okay, 1.75 problems solved.
I replaced the rca cables with some known good ones- I’ll eventually mount female jacks in or on it but I have to order some first.
I’m having trouble sourcing a new anti-skate spring, so for now I just bent the spring to take up slack. It’s a little ghetto but it’ll do for now.
Fired it up, still had noise and even with the anti skate as high as it would go, needle would still try to skate towards the spindle. Trying to narrow down the cause I put the same cart on my sl-d2 and fired it up- same noise. Realized it was down to either the cart or my ear834p clone.
Hooked the sl-1500 back up and swapped to a different cart- andante e. This cart tracks at .75g, while the previous cart tracked at 2.5 to 3g. With this cart antiskate is working fine and it’s holding a steady line on a blank band.
And... no noise! Here it is making beautiful music.
Still need to source feet, a proper antiskate spring, and do some minor cosmetic touch-ups.

Very cool! I just replaced two of the capacitors (C1 and C2) in my SL-1500, cleaned up the 33/45/power switch, and it's working great again! This thread has inspired me to give it a more thorough cleaning

Female RCA jacks sound like a neat idea too, I hadn't ever thought of that.

I love it. I actually haven’t had much luck finding other styli for it. I’ve been trying to figure out a good replacement but find conflicting information. The cantilever on mine has been kinked at least twice in two different places, I managed to straighten it out when it came into my possession but one of these days I except it to snap off and disappear.

Cool, I am about to do the same work on a somewhat beat SL-1500 I picked up. Needs feet, vertical tonearm bearings are loose. Don't know if it spins yet. Needs new RCA's... maybe a parts doner, but hopefully can be a functional deck.

Progress update:@buglegirl was parting out an SL-D2 so I bought some bits- feet, an antiskate spring, and a counterweight.
I knew the counterweight would work because I was currently using the one off of my SL-D2, but I wasn’t sure about the feet or spring.
Feet were not a direct fit. I really didn’t want to ghetto rig anything on this table, but I decided I was okay with this because it didn’t require any permanent modification or damage to the table and could be removed if I ever come across more proper parts. To make the feet fit I put a bit of thin weather stripping on the inside (from parts express, they market it as speaker sealant tape or something like that, intended to go between the speaker frame and the cabinet to make an airtight seal) and screwed the feet screws into some small blocks of wood. It actually worked quite well, holds the table up with just a little bit of suspension travel.
Unfortunately, the antiskate spring didn’t add anymore tension- I still can’t use any cart that tracks over 1.5g without being unable to apply enough anti-skate force.
So, still on the hunt for a spring.
Also, I hear Schiit Audio is finally going to release the Sol turntable soon so I’m going to start saving up for that. Once I purchase it this table will go back up for free to the next AKer who can use it. I’m hoping to find a proper spring for it first so that they can receive a fully functional proper tt. But if not, they can have fun hunting down the last piece they need to make this thing perfect. I’ve certainly enjoyed bringing it this far.

Just replaced the RCA cables on both of my SL-1500's. I can recommend KAB USA's Mogami cables and they also have the Technics OE replacement cables too. Good prices and excellent customer service. I had to make new feet for both of my 1500's too. I used a combination of felt and rubber furniture feet. It's not great, but it seems to work ok. I like your solution a lot better. No modification to the table and it has better damping abilities.
I felt I had to say that sounds excessive. Normal skating forces won't cause a tonearm to do that. In fact, a tonearm, without any anti-skating at all, will still usually play a record without jumping. Sorry if I missed it, but you did check the cartridge alignment didn't you? Also general alignment of the tonearm with the platter, and levelness of the table itself? Also, stylus condition. A damaged stylus will skip and "sound like ****"
I have yet to encounter a Technics SL-1500 MKII with the wooden look in the wild !!!
Mostly Technics SL-1700 MKII and Technics SL-1600 MKII out here.

I checked out organdonor. The sl-1400 looks like a slightly different anti-skate assembly, the sl-1350 looks like a closer match.
I went ahead and ordered both, one should work. Fingers crossed anyhow. I also need to double check the tonearm wiring and make sure it isn’t binding or anything.
