Hi everyone,
does this sound like a good price for this SL-1600?
I'm putting together a system for a friend and I'm sure she would prefer an automatic. I have an SL-1700 and the more I thought about it I think the 1600 is a better choice.
Just not too familiar with them or what the oiling or such will entail. I'll download the manual from VE.
Thank you!

If you have the basic skills to disassemble and reassemble this without losing or having any extra parts leftover at the end, you should be able to do the cleaning/regreasing of the moving parts that run the automatic mechanism. As the old grease aged, it thickened, and worked partly like glue instead of grease. Use Q-tips and alcohol to clean out the old, and white lithium grease to redo.

It has the cover in good condition, and one of my favorite cartridges (and maybe a spare stylus). Offer $200, meet in the middle, if you feel competent in your skills.

He said he'd go to $200.
Feel competent to try it!
WIll just take my time!
Thank you for feedback. Will let you know how it turns out!

I have a 1650 and like it. It's basically a SL-1200 with extra features - original, though, not Mk2 so it doesn't have quartz lock nor the pitch slider.

Despite being slightly technically inferior, at least around here, you're more likely to find one of these for less money and not DJ'd to heck.

I have the 1600!
Will post pics in next day or so.
Will start thread in appropriate forum as I dig into it. Thank you all!Looks good very light scratches on dust cover.
