The Count of Connotation
Good News: I got a free Technics SL-1700 mk2
Bad News: because the ebay seller shipped it loose in a box without a scrap of packaging and without the tonearm secured
Good News: The platter didn't come loose and still spins quietly at the right speed.
Bad News: The tonearm makes a creaking noise when it moves and no longer moves freely.
Given that the platter spins and the strobe shows it's at the right speed and that I have not (yet) repaired any turntables, what are the odds I could get this back into a functional turntable? Should I? Or is it parts at this point?
I'm not really sure where the damage is, I can see that the tonearm can be balanced and goes up and down easily, but not side to side. When I push it side to side it makes a creaking noise over part of the range of travel and the anti-skate wheel seems to turn as it moves.
Would appreciate any thoughts on what parts may be required or if this is even a good idea
