SL-7 tone arm stopping before reaching end detect switch

Hi, I have been re-building an SL-7 player and finally got everything working. Played some records over the last week and everything was working fine. However suddenly the other day the tone arm no longer goes all the way to the end. It stops 5mm short from the end switch. There is nothing physically blocking it, the motor simply stops when it reaches this point. So the record plays all the way to the end, but the tone arm never auto returns. What else, apart from the return switch could possibly stop the arm at a specific point? It seems similar to the issues mentioned here.

Unfortunately I don't have an account at VinylEngine.

Do I get you right:
  • the tonearm sled initially did travel all the way, but now it does not?
Can it be moved beyond the current stop position by rotating the worm gear manually?

I have an SL-J2, so I assume the switch is the "parking position switch" that engages when the sled comes all the way to the right, is that correct?
Where exactly is the cartridge at this moment? Is it outside of LP or is it still above the platter?

My guess is that it is the switch - who's position is adjustable, - is actually off its' place. There is an adjustment screw to set the switches' engagement point. Did you check it?

No, it's the end switch, it never reaches the switch so there's nothing to adjust.
The rest switch, the one you are referring works just fine.

Wish I could offer repair advice. but I'm not much of a tech.

I hope you get the problem sorted out, the SL-7 is a great deck. It was my very first quality turntable, bought new in 1982, from Wisconsin Discount Stereo, for $262.50... Still have it. Thankful that mine runs as good as when new.

Thanks everyone for helping this guy out :)

Maybe the End Detect Switch (S307)? Or maybe the Record Size Detect photo detector or Tonearm Position Detect?
