(Slightly) Noisy and (Slightly) dull AU-666

Hi Everyone.
A while ago I used your collective expertise to help me choose my current amp, and I ended up with an AU-317 which has been an absolute joy since the day I brought it home. I know it is perhaps not the most sought-after Sansui but it was within my budget at the time and I love the authority, cavernous low end, and that 'sparkle' it brings to everything I put through it. It makes me very happy.
But within the suggestions you made (but out of my budget) were the AU-555 and 666. Well, I came across a 666 last week, fully functional (ignoring the crackly gain pot) and in great cosmetic condition, one owner from new, and I was lucky with the price so I couldn't resist.
I've been running it now for a week or so to get a baseline before I send it for service, and I love its purposeful looks, build quality, and, well, it's an AU-666! But I have noticed a couple of things which someone on here I hope will say "oh, yeah, it's gonna be a leaking kerfuffle cap/swollen pickle gland" or some such. I want to give my techie guy as much clue as possible.
First, I notice that the cavernous bass I so much love about my 317 is slightly missing on the 666, it just doesn't seem to reach those 'organ pipe' lows quite as well. It's not a biggy really, I could just tweak the bass control a little, but I never use any tone adjustment on my 317 and feel a little cheated by having to on the 666. It also lacks that sparkling clarity I love so much.
Secondly, I hear the noise floor is raised above what I get from my 317, an ever so slight white noise. My 317 is almost completely silent.
Does the panel have any insights as to what might be causing these, or is it simply because the 666 is an earlier design and to be expected? Your comments are welcomed, and thanks for all the help so far.
