Slow start to platter LUXMAN PD-284

Hi, I've bought a really nice LUXMAN PD-284 which sounds great but when I draw the arm over to start, the platter for the first time, it gets up to speed 33/3 or 45 fairly quickly.

After that, I have to take the arm to halfway across (the distance of a 7") before it kicks into life. There is also a slight 'buzzing' sound from the arm as I take it over.

Has anyone any advice on how to fix this? Is there an adjustment I can tweak underneath?

I have the service manual but any tips welcome!

Motor electronics probably need a refresh

Could be caps or other devices. I'd clean the variable resistors if they are the type that could use that. Then go for more work if needed.

I also found several websites where people have had the same experience with PD284. Some removed added a simple 'on-off' switch below to avoid the start spinning with arm movement.
Looks like I need to check to make sure the 'on-off' paddle is making good contact. So I've bought a Contact Cleaner and will tackle it this weekend.
Hope it works, as it has started getting worse and hardly starts at all.

Sounds like you have a good start to a fix, but these do have start/stop adjustment as well. I've had to adjust the stop on my PX999

Hi Troytempest. I have the same problem that you with my PD284. I used contact cleaner, it helped a bit then the problem came back. Have you been able to fix it finally ?
