Hi gang -

I'll have a spread of snacks and some crock pots with chili or pulled pork for sandwiches - bring your favorite audiophile libation.

The "music library" is a small room up in the attic (don't be too scared, it's not that bad), but it's relatively comfy and I'll try to get several extra chairs up here. I have a few extra sources if anybody wants to bring anything for a "BYO" or show-and-tell system for down in the Living Room. There's only an old console in there anymore.

Hope to see you here next weekend if you can make it!
Don

Just talked to Kegger and reminded him about this.

Anybody bringing anything for the DIY room yet??

I'll be there, also those that got a platter matt to be tried out please bring to the meet, that way we can give others a try out as well. Thanks.

I know one of those folks, I'll be sure he brings it!

I have one, too. It will be here, of course!

Dave E. is bringing some stuff for a digital file resolution demo (DAC, etc.). I don't know all the details yet (I think he and Jeff are hammering them out) but I think he'll try to do two demos, perhaps one earlier and one later.

I managed to get 6 chairs up here; it's tight but workable, I think. The Vandersteen 2Ce speakers are reputed to have a wide tolerance for horizontal "sweet spot" but not much vertical variance at all. My listening experience here seem to indicate that vertical tolerance is nil - either you are in it or you aren't - and any deviation horizontally in here puts you too close to a wall or bookcase and it becomes a sound-impinging factor. (There are so many problems with this room that it's probably silly to consider that, anyway.) Let's just listen to the music and forget the system/imaging/etc. :)

Any interest in bring any stuff for a second system downstairs, guys? (Perhaps Dave could do a demo there, too/instead.) There's plenty of room. Again, I can bring the McIntosh CD player and/or a TT downstairs if we need sources.

Looking forward to the demo, as I am a digital streaming neophyte and need some insight.

I'm sure I can speak for almost everyone, and we'll have a great time Don. Don't fret about the audiophile crap, I haven't heard a perfect room yet (including my own) and I know, you know, it's all about the music and the comradery anyway. We just enjoy being invited, and I'll bring my bag filled with as much good stuff (to spin) as will fit. It's all good.

Just wondering, are Rob's Rules of Order going to be enforced at this meet. They are a topic on another thread but I need to know whether to bring my elbow pads and helmet.:D

How can one rule over anything one is just a mere servant to?

The irony is that no one can be forced to happily listen (or do anything else, let alone happily).

...My hope would be that we find music as a group. Happiness is, of course, optional.

R.U. High?!:D

Thanks Don for a really great meet and for being such a gracious host. The presentation was fantastic as well! Nice listening area despite the potential limitations. Nice work by the presentation committee.

Thanks Don for your always gracious hospitality yesterday!

Another wonderful Saturday afternoon full of good music, friends, and music all in a wonderful setting. And thanks to Jeff and Dave (?) for arranging the digital demo. I think that may have been revealing to some unfamiliar with what digital can be capable of and how close some of the formats may sound in reality.

Another satisfying afternoon at a SMAC event, Don deserves praise for opening up his beautiful historic home and kitchen filled with delectables, showing all of us gracious hospitality. Here's a toast to my friend, nicely done! As many, I really enjoyed the effort put forth in the digital format demo, remain confused as hell about what is going on there, and feel even a greater fondness and comfort for what is apparent in my analog collection, geez. Again, a good time had by all. Don's system also left me feeling very different for the first time about the sound quality of Vandersteens, very focused, very musical, nice indeed Don. And that Nagaoka, what a surprise, that was the whip, it really played its little heart out! Thanks again for having us.

Thanks for the kind words, everybody. I enjoyed it and would do it again if the group will have me ...

I certainly liked the digital demo; it answered some lingering questions I had and raised some others - no harm done! I also appreciate the supportive and critical comments on the kit upstairs: it's a work in progress, but it does what I need for the moment. I am already suffering from upgrade-itis (preamp next), but it will be a little while before funds will match ambition. :)

I'm working every weekend in March (except the weekend of AXPONA) so I'll see y'all in April!
Don

I should add that you guys didn't eat enough chili - I'll be eating chili leftovers all week!
