I have a spare room right next to my home theatre area, im currently listening to music in my theatre room which is treated however im thinking down the road to make a room dedicated to music with a couple bookshelf speakers on stands as it would be more private. With a daughter on the way and possibly another one, i may like a little bit of an escape in a separate room for an hour or so. Somewhere to read and listen to music. If the theatre turns into a family room of sorts it might be an issue. The room is 15Ft x8.5FT, the ceiling is 7.5ft, with a bulkhead covering 1/3 of the ceiling to about 7FT. Is the room even worth considering as a music listening room? I would also be setting up two small computer desks behind the listening position which i dont think should affect anything. Im thinking 6FT of spacing between the two speakers and 7FT distance from the speakers toed in. Obviously bookshelf's since the room is small, i currently have towers in my theatre. Room treatments would be acoustic panels on the side walls, drop ceiling tiles with carpet tile...and a diffuser on the back wall.

Those proportions aren't too bad, IME. Set things up facing the long axis of the room, get some distance behind the speakers and behind the listening seat, add some treatments (and an area rug if it's not carpeted), and I think you'll do fine. Everything you say in your post sounds good to me. If you've got the budget for it, that sounds like a great room for the KEF LS50 Metas that are getting so much press recently.
Why does everyone recommend the LS50's? Are they good for near listening? I was looking at the Paradigm Premier 200B, primarily because i have the Monitor SE 6000's and i love them for instrumental music and jazz. They have a nice extended high end but yet still sound smooth and lively somehow.
I think it's just because they're getting so much buzz in the magazines and on the internet. The Paradigms look like another good choice.
Yeah looks like the L50's are on sale for $900 CAD but the new meta is alot more. I drank the paradigm coolaid though, lol.
