Looking for recommendations for a small active subwoofer to be used in a 2 channel system. Looking for something and small, fast that will work well with a pair of ProAc Response 1SC's in a small room (10' x 12' room - maybe 1100 cubic feet)
Thanks
Glenn
Some may suggest others, as there are lots of nice small subs out there.
Years ago, at Pro-Musica in Chicago, I heard these same speakers you have, teamed with a Sunfire True Sub Mk-IV, the ProAc's were driven by a 300w Sunfire Signature amp, and the sound was glorious.
These small ProAcs are still my fav small speaker. Totally amazing their clarity, and coherence.
Just moments earlier, I had auditioned a pair of $6K Dunlavy's, and although the Dunlavy were in a much larger room, I was still very impressed with this Sunfire-ProAc combo.
I recall the ProAcs being on some very expensive sand filled Stands. The Sunfire Sub I remember had 50 lbs of steel plates on top, to better couple it to the floor.
There was also some other odd-different way they had the Sub integrated with the ProAcs, which till this day, I am unsure how they did it, but I think they used some sort of inline Caps, or such?
Perhaps they somehow bypassed the Sub's internal X-Over, preferring another way to integrate it?
ProMusica in Chicago is still in business, and I see they are still a ProAc, Sunfire, and REL Dealer. Perhaps shoot them an email, or call, and they can help you better than I can, with some explanations to their hook-up suggestions?
I liked that little Sunfire Sub so much in fact, a couple years later, I bought one from them. I myself just use the Sub's internal X-Over running direct from Pre-Amp, so it works from 85hz on down. Mark
