I have a part of smaller advents and they sound great. The grill cloth has some runs it in and the look poor. Does anyone know of a source or replacement that is close? Please post pictures if you have done this. Id love to redo mine.

That's a good question - - not sure exactly what type of fiber the early Advent grilles used. I have two pairs of Smaller Advents awaiting restoration (foams, caps.... the usual) but I haven't thought much yet about the grille cloth. Great sounding speakers, but unfortunately they came only with the dreaded imitation walnut (vinyl) cabinet cladding, so appearance is not exactly their main virtue. Nonetheless, I'll be interested to see what others will propose. Keep us posted.

Do a search on here...there's a post I remember that stated where to get exact material for almost the entire Advent series.

Parts-Express has several fabrics to choose from. Maybe you should consider a loosely woven linen from a fabric store. I think that would look very classy.

Think outside the box on Grill fabric. Look at needlepoint/cross stitch fabric, but be sure the thread count is 10. I found a curtain panel at Lowes that is really close to AR/Dynaco fabric. Walmart sells light burlap in colors and is transparent enough not to muffle the speakers. As MOJO Warrior said too.

i had a look at the burlap section at joann fabrics today. Junk. It was all fuzzy and falling apart. The search continues. That curtain panel sounds interesting. I LOVE the look of the dynacos.

I Shure would want to have some fabric and wanted too have a hint to find some SA...
The opposite is a happier quest.

I've heard 123stitch.com, but haven't tried them. Try a search here and you might get a specific link.
I have used Charlescraft Irish Linen from Michaels for some ARs and it looks good. I thought it was 18-count, but the website shows 28-count.:dunno:

A thread count of 10 is way too coarse for Advents. Advents are 16-18 TPI. And burlap isn't really correct either because Advents have very uniform threads in the fabric, not thin and thick interspersed.

I still haven't found an exact match although I admit I haven't really looked a lot lately.

thanx for the tip on Dorr a_retent, I have been familiar with it and is only about 60 miles away. I never put 2 + 2 together, road trip.

look in the linens...that's what I used on mine, or the cross stitch isle...

Has anyone here veneered smaller advents? I would love to do that to mine some day, its the only thing keeping them from being the best small speaker in the world!
