Smithline 2 x 4 speaker fuse

I just blew my two 2 x 4 smithline speaker fuses and need to replace them but don't know where to find them. The smithline contact phone number is a wrong number at this point. It looks like a fast blow thin wire fuse about 1 1/4 inches long.

They are pretty standard fuses, As long as you can read the amp reading you can probably source them at a Home Depot, Lowes, or possibly an auto pats store. Bring it with you when you go.

And, I'd turn it down a bit.

I have a pair of these, serial numbers 500 before you, in a dark gray finish. Solid, heavy, good sounding little things.

Coincidentally , they were in fantastic shape except for the missing fuse cap and fuse. I wound up getting a new fuse holder and am using 2A fuses, as found in a Google image search.

I would be curious to know what fuse rating you found in your speakers, if you could pass that along.

How do you know a 2:00 amp fuse is too much n might not blow fast enough? I'm starting with a 250 milliamp fuse and see if the sound is okay before moving up to a higher amperage. I wish I knew exactly what amperage rating fuse was needed.

Did you try reading the blown fuses rating on the chrome end cap of the fuse? You might need a magnifying glass. That's assuming it was the proper rated fuse to begin with.

I usually buy fuses on ebay Enter the rating (amps/volts) and SIZE, there are different length fuses. Many are stated in mm length, Google can show what the mm equals in inches.
. Look through the listings and find a lower cost with a vendor with good feedback, free shipping if possible. Ebay prices can be all over the place, if you know what rating you want buy a 4 or 5 pack, in case one blows again. Better to have extras on hand than not. If you pay over $10 for a pack of fuses that's too much IMO.

Good question. I based my 2A fuse buy on looking through old eBay Smithline auctions; someone had a pair with a 2A sticker on the terminal cup.

My question is what rating of fuse did you have in your pair when they did blow?
