Smoking AU-888!!

Hi Guy's,

Complete newbie on how anything works inside of vintage stuff, but I've got a AU-888 with matching TU-888 tuner that had been sitting for a while. I decide to start using it again, and plugged it in - played very quietly.

Took the case off, 3 of the 4 4A fuses on the pan were blown. So I replaced all 4 and carefully powered up. It's smokes. The smoke comes from the circuit board marked F-1282-1 and the little thing (diode marked R825) is what get hot enough to start smoking. I shut down immediately.

My ears work fine, that's why I love my old Sansui's, I just don't squat about the stuff inside.:no:

I've searched the net for a replacement F-1282-1 circuit board, no find.

Does anybody know of a place that sells vintage sansui parts? I'm on the west coast if it makes a difference.

Hi George, you probably don't need vintage parts. Most faults like you are describing can be fixed with commonly available parts. It's likely the output transistors are blown. What you need is someone that knows what to change out. Where are you located?

its happens to me before.

Try to look those shorted transistors at driver boards it make a sense.

Testing and soldering circuit boards is a little beyond me. So I'll have to finf=d somebody reasonably close by who can fix it for me.

Thanks for the diagram, it may come in handy!
