Snell E II

First time poster after just a few weeks of discovering this magnificent forum. Looking to put together my first system and I found a pair of Snell Type E II speakers for $375. Recently refoamed. Cosmetically they look great. Sounded great in person, as well. Any thoughts on the price tag? Much appreciated.

You could do worse...
I have a set here needing refoams that I paid $150 for on a not so local pickup. One of the local AK members has a set and they sound very nice in his rig, which is why I bought them.

With a local pickup, and your opportunity to inspect and hear them, I'd say you're fine with that price. No steal, but fair for what you're getting.

A couple of things to check are that the rear tweeters both work, do they have the stands, and find out what kind of surrounds were used in the refoam. Those looking for the highest of Fi prefer the angled AN surrounds from England which are more costly, but my friend here had his redone and he doesn't believe anybody jumped through hoops for the high end surrounds. They sound quite nice. I'll refoam mine with garden variety foams.

Get them if you like them.

As Andyman says, "You could do worse".

I have a pair just like those and they are quite nice. I didn't know any better when I got them and refoamed with generic (although nice quality) foams. Never heard them with the original foams so I couldn't make a before/after comparison.

From what I have seen, the price is not out of line for a pair needing nothing.

Good luck and welcome to AK!

Wow. I was going to pass on a pair of E/III's refoamed and almost minty for <=$250. Perhaps I should reconsider.

Yeah, I like much what he has done at Revel (that I have heard), but it is a departure from traditional Snell, huh?
