Snell Eiv or Cii ?

Looking for opinions here as there are no right or wrong answers when it comes to speaker preferences. I currently have a pair of Eii's which impress me with their clarity and dynamics. I have an option of either a pair of E IV's or C II's at around $400. I've got a smallish listening room may 12 x 18 feet, so i'm thinking the E IV may be more practical but I'm very curious to see what the C II's sound like with their dedicated mid range driver. I'm using a Yamaha A-S1100 integrated to drive them. Just curious if anyone has owned both/either and their suggestions/observations.

Thanks!!!

A Snell fan here and own the J (Ver. I, original) and E IIIs.
Wish I could help out with advice,...I don't own the IVs or Cs, but love my IIIs. I'll be following along. :lurk:

Tagging @jobrewer1983 as he has the E IVs, and @trinhsman as he's a devout Snell fan and has the Cs. @Johnny_Law has a pair as well.

Decisions, decisions, decisions.... ;)

Thanks @8xlaxx - I have never heard E/IVs nor have I ever heard Cs. The C/II was certainly priced higher than the E/IV, so I'd be pretty curious to see if the C's performance is really that much better.

IMHO, if the C's are in good shape, get them. Also, IMHO, the E II's are a better speaker than the E IV's. Something that I did with my E II's was to totally modify them. What I did was have custom cabinets built by my brother-in-law. He is a cabinet maker, so he duplicated the new cabinets to the exact dimensions of the originals. He used a quality northern birch plywood for the cabinet. I then upgraded the front drivers to the Audio Note Hemp woofer and Silver voice coil tweeter. Once that was done I had AK member Gordonw rebuild the crossovers. He did them to the originals, including bundling of the caps like Peter Snell did. All invested, about 1200.00. Yeah, a lot for a set of E II's, but I would put them up against any 5,000 dollar speaker out there. The picture is before the Audio Note drivers.

If it were me, I would keep the E II's and also get the C's. Worth comparing IMHO.

Thanks @8xlaxx,

@desertlizard has my IV's now, I had to make room for more gear. I love the EIV's the bottom end was quite special.

E IV owner, and can confirm that they are excellent speakers. Bought them new when I was in college in the 90s. Still have them and can't say that the Revel F32s that I replaced them with are any better.

I’m a little late to this party but just wanted to add my two cents I currently have a set of D’s K2 and E4,s have also Hurd E2-3 and a first gen C . I love snells one of the best bang for the buck companies incredible sound honestly. My opinion go by your room size if it’s smaller go with the Es I love mine and they are fantastic. Running them on a set amp and i border line love them more than my D’s . They have and awesome sound . I don’t think you can go wrong with either but like I said room size has a lot to say in it.

I have the Ci's and love them. In the big room they don't have the oomph of the ADS L980, but in the smaller room they really shine. I don't think I'll every part with them.
