Snell JII blown woofer repairable?

EQmeat

One of the usual suspects
One of my Snell JII has a Seas H334 8 inch woofer that no longer responds. It tested as infinity on the Ohmmeter. I read about a proceedure in which you cut out the cone. Taking off the foam surround and then cutting the spider away near the basket. At this point you should be able to access the voice coil and possibly resolder the tinsel lead back on to it, depending on what you find when you get in there.
Has anyone here duplicated this procedure? Can a spider be glued back together after it is cut entirely out of the basket?

i have , but does this woofer have a cast magnesium basket? you may find you can
dig under the spider and peel it off the frame . had this luck w/ a Vifa 8" woofer-
the spider was glued down with a pliable rubber glue, which peeled off once i got it started. i superglued a loose winding on the former which was rattling, put it back
together with shims in the VC ,and the surround back in place, and glued it w/ contact
cement. it still works perfectly .

make sure to mark the location of the spider if you remove it.

i have also simply cut the spider flush at the gluejoint and reglued it with contact cement...worked fine . i suspect there was some change in the mechanical properties
because there was a good bit of glue holding the side of the spider together,
but ......you can decide.

Nothing ventured

Sounds as though I ought to go for it. I don't have much to lose if it is the only way to get the woofer started again. Thanks Karlo.
