So I bought an oscilloscope... hmm how'd I do?

I built a DSO shell and frankly I'm impressed with it for what it does. However it's just not convenient to hold while you test. I wanted to get my feet wet with it and just a few days after FINALLY getting it to work I found the Kenwood and decided it was too much of a steal to pass up. I work on stereos and some guitar amps and build pedals. I think this will serve me well.

$74 bucks shipped and tested working by the owner.... Moderator edit: removed link to auction site so as to not break AK rules.

Looks very clean and gently used. Dual trace and I'm giddy. (unless you guys think it sucks LOL) I've read on other forums that these are reliable but I'm not sure how repairable they are? Proprietary parts or common? How'd I do?

I have 8 scopes (its my addiction). If you want an opinion... I would have bought an old Tek. 453,465 ect. I picked up another 468 a few days ago for $125 shipped.

only 20mhz no biggy but...I see no delay option, slow sweeps.

In what situation are the delay options important with regards to some light to medium stereo repair/diagnostics? I own 14 guitars over the last 9 years. I bought a toy scope a week ago and an analog yesterday......I'm prone to collecting deals as I run across them. I'll keep an eye out for those Tek models.
 
If you want to look at a signal and see what is actually happening at a certain point delay works a treat.

I'll remember that. I've been reading up on this and unfortunately never ran across a recommendation for the delay functions in the threads I read. Found more "get analog" "get dual trace" etc.

Like I said in my first post. All that matters it what you think and want. My first scope was a 2213a no b delay just a basic starter scope. I still have it and it is most likely all I need. I appreciate the thought and design that went into some of the Tektronix oscilloscopes so here I am with too many. Just don't buy the next cheap 453, I need parts :)
 
As long as the CRT works, should be good, easy to fix thru hole.
I picked up an HP 54501A 15 years ago and apart from replacing the battery backed ram that holds the cal, and one defective input transistor it is great. The advantage of digital scopes is that they have all sorts of voltage and frequency/time measurements. I just used it to measure the resonant frequency of an LC circuit so I could calculate the L knowing the C.
I am sure you purchase will be great!
 
That should be a great scope for learning on. I have a both an analog and DSO and like them both.
The analog is nicer to watch wave forms and such but the DSO is nice in that it does measurements. Some nicer analog scopes do this as well but they tend to cost $$$.
 
I think it's a fine one, maybe not a fancy shamcy one but, it'll get the job done.
Heck when I did have one it was a stone age RCA. Of course most everything
I own was made in the stone age or just after the Pyramids.

Also a scope hoarder here ...well only 3 - two analog, one digital. Used to have some others including all vacuum tube ones (which can work just fine too!), but now the ones I have only have one vacuum tube.

One of my analog scopes is also a 20MHz'er (dual trace, single timebase, and does not have XY) and I actually used it to debug many things. One of which was to repair the other analog scope I have that I got defective (a 300MHz). It all depends on what you need to debug.

Incidentally, that 300MHz analog scope (quad trace, dual timebase) I used to debug the digital scope, though the 20MHz scope would have also done just fine as well.

I have yet to get a 'scope with 0 vacuum tubes.

My buddy Donny gave me his old Philips PM3200. I thought it was solid state (this would have been my first SS scope) until it stopped working and I opened it up:A single 12AX7 (on the input), all the rest dinosaur SS.:dunno:

It looks like the input uses a JFET? Or this perhaps is a later version of the same 'scope?

I think the only thing I wish my digital scope had was a deeper memory depth. It's a really old CCD 300MHz Tektronix 2440 storage 'scope...

You are correct,there were different versions of this scope,the later model doing away with the tube.
