So what speaker is better than ADS in a same price range?

x2 on the Polk LSi, even RTi. They can rival ADS at the same price point.

Focals, etc.

I'm sticking to ADS though. I don't want plastic tweeters held together with hot glue.
Opinions are like ass*****, everyone has one. I don't agree with the Polk lsi series. They have nothing on ADS. The focal aria 905"s that I recently just purchased smoke the lsi9's that I had.

I had a pair of rti8's also. Didn't have for very long. They aren't as good as 710's, 810's, or 1290's. Nowhere in the same league as the ADS 980's, 1590's, or the 1530's. I've owned them all. The PSB 4t's and 5t's that I had at one time bested them. I'm sure the older Polks were very good, but after Polk sold to Diected Electronics they weren't the same. Just my opinion of course.

Ass - HAIRS? (I've seen a couple of guys down at the gym that must be devoid of opinions)
I'll second that as all of the Polks I have had were pretty lifeless by comparison, bearing in mind the same price point and size.

Id like to find a pair of ADS
I have a "similar" Avid set thats
Build-wise kind of on the order of ADS 980 which were one of their best models being used by telarc and other labels telarc would eventually buy up
But theyre not likely anywhere near as good/enjoyable even if individual drivers are well built and cabinets hefty, which they certainly are.
Dont care for them.

Sum I like your writing style. It is like poetry.

In many ADS threads people state why they like these speakers and why they chose to keep them over some others. So, what I wonder is - what if anything that people found that beats ADS for them, while staying in a same price range? Hope this makes things more clear.

Snell Type D's displaced my ADS L1290s at a little higher cost. They had all of the detail that I loved in the ADS, but with a fuller midrange and better imaging. There are some things that I miss about the ADS, which is why I'm still searching after 4 years for the correct midrange to complete the driver complement for a set of L1090s. Once I find that midrange, I'm going to build cabinets that are way over-built compared to the original, upgraded wiring, and maybe even crossover parts. Try to make the ultimate L1090 set.

What I miss is the sense of tightness/quickness that I got out of the ADS. Maybe that's the sealed design, or something else, I don't know. I do know that I enjoy rotating in my 40 year-old L710s every now and then.
