sola general signal company power conditioner, what can i do with this thing

mike hatt

wallowing in sound
found it at a local pawn shop, two plugs on the front, two on the rear, about six rack spaces, fifty or so pounds with rack handles and a signal/voltage meter on the front.

From what i can gather sola made great power products but do they still? also what would something like this be worth, im not offering it to sell or anything im just curious for my renters insurance..it looks quite like it was a good chunk of change when new.

I don't think Sola is around anymore. I thought they were bought by Square D. If this is a line conditioner, not a UPS, it's likely a ferroresonant transformer. Regulation is probably greater than 3% with -15/+10% input. Beware that a ferro has fixed losses. At full load they're about 85% efficient. What this means is if it's rated at 1KW it uses about 150 watts of power with nothing connected. It will heat up a room and run up the electric bill.

Don't know if we have enough info. No picture, no info from the tags on the unit and such to figure out much about this item. But it has to be good to have and valuable, it is heavy and has rack handles.
