Solid State Capacitors

Hey guys

Could one theoretically use newer solid state capacitors (like the ones used on PC motherboards and such nowadays) in say a recapping project on audio gear, provided the voltage and capacitance were the same? I understand the solid state ones last and last and last, but also that they are intended for high frequencies :dunno:

I have talked to a old repair guy pretty savvy in the new stuff he said use general purpose or audio grade. He also said it was to hard to explain why

You probably can, but there's no point to it. Solid state caps are basically like putting tantalum caps everywhere. Remember that solid caps are made to work with high frequency switching in computers and such. They SHOULD work in audio, but likely do alter the sound. Also most are surface mount, though leaded one's can be gotten.

So again, I see no real advantage to using them for this purpose.

I see said the blind man. :) Ya I was just curious wasn't going to try that in practice but was curious if it would theoretically work
