Solved! Denon DCD-1500 II disc not reading

Hello all,
I'm new to this forum and need some help with a DCD-1500 II I just purchased on eBay.
It was listed as working, but when I tested it, it did not even spin the disk and the display shows zeros and nothing else.
It loads the disk, spins a couple of turns and nothing more.
From the discussions above, it seems that the laser does not find the first track, so no information can be retrieved from the disk.
I opened the top cover and found that a round magnetic puck that sits on top of the clamp is loose and not sure if it is suppose to be like that, or it got dislocated during shipment.
Actually, I don't know what is it's purpose, it acts like a weight perhaps to keep the disk securely loaded.
Other problems I'm seeing is that the laser does not park to home position after the CD is ejected, this basically makes locking for transport impossible.
To lock the laser, I have to push the laser back and then I can lock it with the screw on the bottom.
When I talked to the seller, he told me that he will lock it before shipment and the screw was in the locked position, but perhaps it did not lock, so that might explain why it is totally broken now.
Any help to figure out what's going on, will be very much appreciated.

Check sellers return policy first if it a 30 day policy just your losses and file a claim with ebay as "item not as described" do not attempt any repairs that might work against you on your claim.

No need to dispute
The vendor is a decent person, when I told him that it came broken, he refunded me the entire amount and told me to discard it or fix it if I can
So practically I have it for free

Still not working and now I have an additional problem, the tray opens and closes right away.
I found out that one of the wires on the micro limit switch that detects the tray out position is broken off.
The micro switch is on the right and partially under the tray and in order to access it, I would need to remove the tray.
I don't know how to do that with out running the risk to create other problems, because I need to know the proper procedure, what screws to remove and how to pull out the tray.
I'm not sure the 1500 has the same mechanics as the 1500 II, can you tell?
I also hope that perhaps someone else who has a 1500 II, can help as well.

Hello again,
It looks like no one is reading this thread anymore, or there is no suggestions on how to fix my DCD-1500 II player
Here is another problem:
When the unit is powered up, the laser sled moves to the middle of the disk, but it does not move back again.
It seems that the home position is not detected.
Does anyone know where the home detect micro switch is located and how to access it?
Any other suggestions are very much appreciated.

I've got a Denon DCD-1520 that for years has been having trouble picking up cueing (for lack of a better word) to start CD play. Also drawer opening and closing issues. I just persist with it and can eventually get it to play a disc. There are repair kits on ebay for it--replacing a small belt I think) but I haven't pursued it. In your case I just searched for repairs to your particular Denon and found some hits. I imagine you've already done some searching and sorry I can't help more. Good luck.

I did a lot of searches on the subject myself, but no luck yet.
Your DCD-1520 has the same Sony KSS-151A laser, so the mechanics must be very similar.
I have no problems with the tray and I know where the two microswitches are for that, but I can't find the micro switch for the laser sled.
I assume it is integral part of the laser module, I can't find any information or datasheet for it.
Anyway, I hope some one who knows more about this, will get back to me

It rejected over half of the CDs I tried but tape fixed 100% of rejected CDs for now.
Anyone have a VFAQ with close-ups of the clamp removal and pad replacement process?

No VFAQ necessary. The arm removal is easy as described earlier in this thread.
The pad is worn thin on mine so replacing that pad should make this beast 100% functional without tape.

Starrett Calipers, a 1967 Somali Shilling & a US Penny, good scissors, an X-Acto & 25¢ worth of
adhesive backed rubber and SHAZAM! the clamp is repaired and the CDP works mint.

I even have a tiny bit left over

Hi I am having a no disc error on my Denon cdr w1500. Cleaning the lens didn't help. I put in the disc and it gives a few half-hearted spins then gives up.

I didn't want to start a new thread - but I recently had good luck with cleaning/lubing a faulty Denon DCD-690 I found for cheap locally.

Thought it sounded pretty good when I tested it with headphones on pickup - but got home and noticed it was skipping ahead by a few seconds in a few random spots with all the CDs I tried. This particular model doesn't have the felt clamp/puck mechanism described in this thread, but upon reading various other threads I thought a good cleaning and lube would be worthwhile to try before tossing. First I just tried cleaning the lens with 99.9 alcohol. Didn't fix the issue. After figuring out how to disassemble the CD drawer/transport tray and laser mechanism, I cleaned the spots with the old white grease on the plastic rails and gears. cleaned the main metal rail the laser rides on. I used a small amount of Tamiya ceramic grease (basically feels/looks like a slightly more refined/delicate white lithium grease) in the various spots and a little on the metal rod. I also dropped a tiny amount of oil on the shaft bearings for the laser slide motor and the the motor that spins the CD. I cleaned the lens again and put it all back together. So far, success! hasn't skipped a beat since the service. what a great sounding CD player. Lesson is, don't toss out those old (but decent) 90s CD players or try to source a new laser until you've simply cleaned and re-lubricated the moving parts.
