[SOLVED] Request for clarification: "4 ads per category"

Hello,

I cannot post on this thread:
https://audiokarma.org/forums/threa...r-exceeding-4-ads-need-clarification.1073947/

What is a "category"? Or, I should ask "What is the full list of categories?"
It seems that one can post a maximum of 4 ads per category. But I'd like to know what these are....

I have quite a few pieces of my father's cherished audio equipment (speakers, turntables, receivers, etc). The time has come to part with them all. I am trying to find good homes for them all.

A related question: it seems from this thread:
https://audiokarma.org/forums/threads/new-barter-town-rules-please-read.299028/

that one can edit an ad, but expired ads don't really subtract from ones count of allowed ads. That is, if I sell something advertised, even after the 14-day period passes, that ad remains as counted towards my 4 ads. Is this really how it works?

Register to hide this ad
Threads will run for 14 days. If you sell in 5 days, you can reuse the original ad spot by removing what you sold, and refreshing the ad with new info for the balance of the remaining time up to the 14 day timeframe. By doing so, you don’t lose the capacity to post stuff for sale thereby keeping all 4 ads per categories active. But at the end of the 14 day slot, the ads are removed, so if you don’t renew it, they just go away.

The categories are sub-forums that cover different product categories. Each sub-forum has a description under the sub-forum name:
  • BarterTown - "Equipment": Audio Gear All Goes Here - Complete pieces of audio equipment such as amplifiers, preamplifiers, receivers, speakers, tape/CD/DVD/Blu-ray players, turntables, DACs, phono stages, etc.
  • BarterTown - "Parts & Accessories": Parts, including Cables, Cartridges, other Ancillary bits and bobs - Audio Only
  • BarterTown - "Media": Stored Music - Any Format and printed audio/music media
  • BarterTown - "Non-Audio": Anything Allowed to Be Sold on AK that's NOT Audio Stuff
Then there's a fifth sub-forum "BarterTown - Aged Ads", which retains the still valid (not sold or completed) ads from those main sub-forums for further member viewing.

I think I understand...

Whether or not an item sells, after 14 days the ad is removed. In that case my "ad count" is reduced and I can post another ad (either the same item that didn't sell or an ad for a completely new item)?

If I don't sell within 5 days, then I cannot reuse an ad; I cannot refresh it with new information for another item. In that case I have to wait the 14 days for the ad to expire.

Is my understanding correct?

Yes.
a) If the item(s) sells or your WTB ad is fulfilled (Completed), it is moved to the Completed Barter Town Sales forum.
b) If the item(s) didn't sell or WTB is still open, then the ad is moved to the BT Aged Ads sub-forum. Keeping it in the Aged Ads section allows four other ads in the main section. If you don't need all that ad space, you could then opt to repost your ad in the main section and request the ad be removed from the Aged Ads section.

You can repurpose your ad at any time during that 14 day period. I believe @CT Jim was just using 5 days as a "for instance" example.

Great...! Thank you for the clarification...!

Apologies... I know I read it somewhere previously but can't find it now.
How do I mark a thread "solved"? I saw one that edited the title with a suffix "... solved" but I'm curious if there is a preferred way.
Some forums suggest the prefix "[Solved]" (or in all caps). Does AK have a preferred format?

Thanks...

Mark it "Sold" by going to your thread, click on the three dots on the upper right of post #1, select the "Sold" option, then save the thread.

Staff will move the thread and your # of ads available should increase.

I meant how to mark an arbitrary thread as "solved" (not a for sale post)?
I marked this one with the prefix "[SOVLED]" in the subject, but I don't know if this is the preferred way.

An arbitrary thread in Barter Town ads sub-forums? You could ask BT questions in the main Barter Town forum section above the sub-forums. Otherwise, discussions belong in the discussion forums area, not in the ads sections

For Barter Town sub-forum ads, there is no "SOLVED" colored prefix offered for the ad header and, yes, you could edit your thread header and add "SOLVED" to it and remove the prior used colored prefix (FS, WTB, etc.). However, when looking to move all Sold and Completed threads to the Completed BT ads forum, the forum moderator will likely use the select function (click on any FS or COMPLETED prefix in the sub-forum) to collect them. So, the better way would be to use the "COMPLETED" prefix; otherwise, your "SOLVED" ad might eventually get moved to the BT Aged Ads sub-forum in a collective move.
