some ma2275 questions

hi guys. i have a couple questions on the ma2275. ok, first, is the amp under rated like the mc275? my local mc guy says the mc275 actually puts out about 90 watts. does the ma2275 also??
im new to all this stuff and dont really know the correct meanings of some of the audio terms so please bear with me. What do integrateds do for you sonically?? i would think with one less set of interconnects, it must have some advantage over separates?? i am aware of the downsides.
my local mc guy had an mc275 hooked up to a c2200 running through wilson speakers. VERY,VERY,EXTREMELY nice. course i dont have the money for the speakers, but they sure sounded darn nice. power wise i think either would work for me, i have klipsch rf7 speakers and it doesnt take much to drive them.
right now, im kind of leaning towards the mc275 and a c220, but i would sure appreciate any input on the sonic differences on the two units. My mc dealer says in july mcintosh is going to be running some kind of promotion and he will have an ma2275 in stock, so i think ill hold my water till july before i pull the trigger. thanks for reading and any input you care to share. regards, jeff

Mc275 & Mc220

I have justed pick-up my new MC275 & MC220 three days ago. Hook them up and started playing my first CD. Guess what! It's a manificient combination. It sounded much much better than my previous MA6900. Plenty of punch, very crstal clear mid and high as smmoth as silk. My speaker is Proac D38 and Esoteric SA60 my CD player. In a coople of months I will be changing my main, speaker and interconnect cables and sure these will enhance the quality of sound. My recommendation is go for the MC275 & MC220 as there's a lot of power in these monster. Good luck.

thanks for the input hw. im really leaning in that direction myself, although the ma2275 is sure a pretty piece. are you usinf balanced or single end interconnects between the amp and pre?? thanks again, regards, jeff
 
I have the MA2275 and love it! In terms of power it is a v490 volt chassis similar to the mc275 (IV,V) and will output the same power (do a search on this forum – since the MA2275 came before the c220 and mc275 IV there was a trickle up technology! ). The tube complement in the amp is different that the mc275. The pre amp section has a similar circuit to the c220. I’ve heard both. In terms of sound, there are subtle differences – The MA2275 is a little more focused sounding, the c220/mc275 tends to have a more burnished midrange and bigger sounding bass. I couldn’t say if one is better than the other and honestly I would have a hard time telling the difference with casual listening. I’ve read a review where the author preferred the MA2275 over his audio research reference gear and the c2200 + mc275.

I’ve been thinking of moving to separates for a while and find it very difficult to make the jump as the MA2275 is so good sound wise (I do find myself craving the extra features of a mac pre amp)

The separates afford you more options down the road and a pre amp with more features. With the MA2275 you get the sound, performance and those fantastic blue meters!

Mc275 & Mc220

My system is running with both RCA & balanced I/C - have tried both and still liked the balanced. I have spent almost 6 months testing both the MA2275 & MC275 and personally leaning to the MC275 becuase I can feel that the soundstage, dynamic range and almost all areas superior. Don't get me wrong with the MA2275 - they are excellent if you don't compare with MC275. Last night I played my system after 15 hours of burn-in and honestly they are getting better each day. Go for whaever you think suitable and within your budget too. Good luck mate.
 
One more vote for the MC220/MC275, and you always have the option to get two mc275's. Right now it fills up my 19x20 with 12 foot ceilings. Who knows what's going to happen in July, maybe something good for mc275's too. The 220 is also free of light bulbs that blow out eventually. For me it does all I need, I am not a home theater guy. So if you need more there is more out there too. Tone magazine, also has a great review of both the MC275 and MC220. I haven't gone nuts with cables though. I keep on thinking this thing was designed way before the advent of wild cables, so I got what I considered to be good stuff.

How do you like your Esoteric ?
 
My Esoteric SA60 - it's a manificient machine. I got rid of my CEC player and got this one. They go very well with tubes, warm and tame.

well, thanks for the help fellas. think im going to go separates. my local dealer has an mc275 thats a demo. made me a screaming deal on it and still comes with a full factory warrantee. has about 100 hours on it, barely burned in. besides, hes a good duy and was very helpful. answered all my questions without talking down to me. explained a lot of things i wasnt aware of, very knowledgeable guy. that alone is worth a lot to me. thats where ill spend my money. thanks again guys, ill soon be a mcintosh owner myself. best regards, jeff
 
Glad to hear you will soon be a McIntosh owner... the 275 is a very good choice....you will have to keep us posted on how you get on with it....
