Some "my first tube amp" questions.....

Big Bill

Summertime Rolls.....
Hello gang, I've recently purchased and am awaiting the arrival of the Musical Paradise MP-301 tube amp. As this amp is my foray into the world of tubes, I'm wondering if there is anything "special" I need to know/do prior/during it's maiden "run"?

Thanks in advance, Bill.:thmbsp:

What kind of speakers are you gonna be using? Fairly efficient one's I hope as the amplifier is only 4.5 watts of single ended power per channel.

My guess is that he's planning to use it as a HP amp? Not that there's anything wrong with 4 1/2 wpc.

This is true, just wondering! I use a single ended tube amp with some very efficient speakers for my rear channel with my surround decoder amplifier. Sounds great!

Strange little amp 4.5watt output, saving your money for altec 755a's? I guess its considered an integrated amp. I suppose it may sound good but I short of have a hard time thinking it will. What short of setup are you trying to run? are you going to use this as the attend headphone amp or are you going to try to power speakers? Give us some info on what your hoping to achieve. I will be the first to say you could have found something nicer and vintage for the price.

Indeed I did purchase it for use as a headphone amplifier. Partially because it ranked eighteenth in a "top twenty two" review posted at Head-Fi and also based on
this review from Head-Fi.

Perhaps you’re right. :dunno:

Make sure you have all the tubes in the correct spot and seated well.

Make sure you have a load(speakers, HP's...) on the outputs before you turn it on.

Other than that you should be ready to go with a new amp like that.

Thanks Rex, I was beginning to feel shunned! :D
