(Somewhat) Dedicated Listening Room!

Fast_Eddie

Upper-middle fi
Ok, it's official. The spare bedroom became my "dedicated listening room" today. We swaped our extra bed for a friends extra futon.

I still have the computer in here and a lot of just crap, but it's pretty nice, and for the first time I have my Timewindows set up in something resembling a good orientation. The effect is almost creapy. The image is much more perecise than I thought they were capable of.

I'm listening to my Conrad Johnson CD player through the Marantz 2218 I got last weekend. I'm quite happy with it! I ordered new fuse style bulbs from Parts Express and can't wait to get them in. Some jack ass broke off some of the plastic bits that hold the light board in place, but I think there is enough left to hold it in place. If not I'll use a little tape to hold it together.

The room is really too small, and I have to find a rug for it, but I am very happy to have a place to listen!

Take care,

Ed

Yes.The room.

Fast Eddie,
Congratulations on the new listening room. It's an instructive lesson to hear just how much The Room influences, and actually becomes the limiting factor whether you're spending pennies or millions on Hi-Fi.I actually bought my house because I could tell that the Lounge room was going to sound great(and it does).
So much for all the tweeks and audiophile angst,if the room aint right you're always gonna be behind the eight-ball.Polishing a turd(so to speak).
Happy listening FE.

man caves

i got my man cave last summer, it took intense negotiations, and is still frequently chirrped about. yet, i may still get even more room woring on moving my desk into a "shared office." on the plus side, she's come to enjoy the man cave and has gotten to the point where she even wants to pick out the LP!

Theophile, you have it down to the nitty gritty and I couldn't agree with you more. I couldn't have said it better. It needs to be said more often.

You guys are so right. I've been reading a lot about it. I'd guess that most of the people on this forum would benefit more from improving the room than they would from any piece of new gear. When you think about the lengts some folks go to for minor improvements you have to wonder if their time and effort would be better spent working on their listening location.

Tyler, I'm very lucky that my wife fully supports my new room. We're doing a small addition to the house- a really neat solarium off the dining room- and I think that put her in the frame of mind for this. She actually negotiated the trade of the bed for the futon. And, of course, we can still use it as a guest room if need be.

Take care,

Ed

It's nice, isn't it? Being unwed, I have total say-so over my house. My master bedroom is my audio/computer room, most of it audio. LP rack, CD rack, an antique table for the equipment, two speakers, and a comfortable chair in the sweet spot. My girlfriend thinks I'm nuts, but oh well. If I can get my Magnepans working right maybe it will change her mind.
