The music we listen to forms a sort of soundtrack for our lives, and individual songs can become intimately linked with specific people and/or events. For example, every time I hear Bruce Springsteen sing "Rosalita" it transports me back to my high school days, driving my spiffy red AMC Gremlin, and trying to make out with cheerleaders in the parking lot.
Sometimes the memories and associations create a pleasant nostalgia, but other times they are just too painful. For example, I cannot listen to Pink Floyd's 'Wish You Were Here' without thinking about my ex-wife and reliving the most painful parts of our divorce.
What songs do you avoid? Which ones take you to the bad place?
