Interesting fact about the song "Honey" the guy who wrote it,wrote it about his deceased wife.I remember he won a Grammy.
Bobby Goldsboro did a bang up job on this song.

So do people listen to country music when they're depressed OR does country music MAKE them depressed???

I heard a song called 'Alone Again' by Jay Jay Johnson. Don't know if its the same tune. But it damn near had me crying too. And I haven't been able to find it on the net either.

Here's another one that will take you back a ways..........
How about the song at the end of the movie "Billie Jack"
It was called "One Tin Soldier" by a group called "Coven"
Bonus points (no cheating and looking it up on the web)
for the person who knows the lead singer for that song......
By the way, that song makes my eyes well up every time.

Someone else mentioned Linda Ronstadt above and I came up with another one of hers that gets me. It's called "Long, Long Time" and is about being totaly in love with someone and that person thinking of you only as a friend.

I have that song 'Tin Soldier' but don't know who sings it.
Oh and the song by Jay Jay Johnson is called 'Alone' not the same song as O'sullivan's.

Always thought it strange that a group called Coven would cover a song like "One Tin Soldier" when their previous efforts were more true to their name. Always liked the song, just could never figure why they covered it. Anyway, wasn't the lead singer Jean Dickson - or something like that?

My Choice

Long May You Run - Neil Young not so much for me but my wife favourite song of her brother who died from cancer at age 38.

For me cannot honestly think of one but that Blind Faith song Can't Find My Way Home - always use to listen to that while coming down from whatever in my early 70's experimental days.

Wait - The Mills Brothers - Me and My Shadow nothing about the song but they were a favourite group of my father lost him in a car accident in 1977 that song brings back memories.:(

Dave918,
You are close, as a matter of fact, the initials would be the same....One Tin Soldier was one of those "One Hit Wonders"

Ive always had a soft spot for John Denver's "Take Me Home Country Roads" going back to when I was small boy and the song first came out.

Sorry Retro, but after you said I was so close I had to go look it up. It was Jinx Dawson wasn't it?

-Dave

Dave,
Yep, Jinx Dawson it was. Tom Laughlin (Billie Jack) was the guy who actually hired her band (Coven) to do the song for the movie. The song "One Tin Soldier" made it to #26 on the charts in 1971 and made Jinx and Coven famous for a couple of years. Jinx was also givin the opportunity to sing the song "Betty Davis Eyes", but turned it down because she didn't think too much of it. Kim Carnes went on to sing that song and it hit #1 for 9 weeks back in the early 80s. Such is life, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose........

cryin'

If you have seen the movie "Roger and me" you might recall the interview with the guy who just lost his job and on the way home, the Beach Boys "Wouldn't it be nice" came on the car radio and he just started crying..... I always think of that when I hear that song, it's quite sad. I don't actually cry though :)

I have to love The Smith's song "Rubber Ring", it's on topic, it goes -

"don't forget the songs that made you cry
and the songs that saved your life
as you sat in awe on the bedroom floor
and said "don't worry, smother me mother"

"...and when you're dancing and laughing
and finally living
hear their voice in your head and think of them kindly.."

Thinking about that song and what it says is getting me teary eyed!!!
