Sonus Faber Cremona Auditor w/stands

Hello!

I have an opportunity to buy Sonus Faber Cremona Auditor w/stands for $2,000. The condition is very visually neat and technically flawless.
Should I buy them or may be go with some more recent Sonus Faber speakers?

Also I need advice on electronics for these SF Cremona Amator - amp (integrated or pre/amp) and CD player. I have around 2,000 cds and a few thousands of flac files on my PC. My budget around 4-6 grand and I can live with used equipment. The room is moderately bright 16"x12" size approximately, filled with open bookshelves.

Mostly I listen acoustic jazz 1950s-2000s (like 80-90% of the time), and sometime classical music and old rock, like The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Sting.

I really appreciate any advice, especially from owners of these beautiful speakers.

Welcome to AK. Discussions involving $ value belong in Dollars and $ense. Those are excellent speakers, but they need a sub, for two reasons. They're fairly easy to blow up if you run them full range, and they really open up and sound more real with good sub. Replacing that little modified Scan Speak woofer is very expensive. That said, I've torn a pair apart, and I don't see $2,000 in them, but I'm an audio cheapskate, like most AKers.

I've heard these, some years ago, at Harveys in Paramus (RIP) and could imagine living with them long term; smooth, relaxed presentation in the Quad ESL/Vandersteen mode. Heard them demo'd with McIntosh electronics (don't remember the model) and it seemed like a good match. Oh - and also with a Krell integrated and a Sony SCD 777. (Which I wound up buying). 5K will get you some nice electronics. Not sure on the price of the SFs - check eBay completed sales or subscribe to Audiogon for a month so you can use their Blue Book.

Edit: If your audio is PC-based, you could do a lot worse than one of the Audio Note dacs (using a USB/coax converter). The DAC 1x was pretty close to the Sony SCD 777 and the two box Wadia system I auditioned, for a lot less money. Not sure what AN's current models are. Our tastes in music are similar.
