Sony 5 cd changer repair

Hi all, looking to get my Sony 5 cd changer repaired.
Anyone know of good source for this in Chicago area (I'm in Chicago proper/Northside)
Someone that's good and can make repair.
I was using a second cd/dvd older component Sony unit, til that one crapped out. I like the 5CD Changer.

I actually hooked a cheapo cd/dvd player from Amazon to system recently...and man can you hear
the difference. OK to watch a movie, but horrible to listen to music. I want my nicer Sony fixed.

Any help would be appreciated.

In case you are handy with a soldering iron... Anyway it wouldn't hurt to watch a few of these videos to see if there is a common problem discussed in one of these videos...

 
I know you say you like your CD player but you can also have thousands of songs on your computer and just patch it through your stereo. CD's are pretty much obsolete nowadays with the flash drives and all. Todays Iphones are pretty much CD quality also.

I've been tempted to get old CD players that I've had and really liked a lot fixed when they crap out, but every time I think about spending money to fix one (with, of course, no assurance that something else about it won't fail soon) I remember how I see them in thrift stores and yard sales all the time for $10-20. I just can't justify spending at least $75 to fix something that can be replaced for less than $20. (It's also the case that the parts that would be necessary to fix old CD players are often unavailable, so when they die they are door stops.)

I've seen Sony CD players for that price on a regular basis at thrift stores. I've picked up players made by Sony, Marantz, Luxman, Technics, etc. for less than $20. I've got a Technics player that says MASH on it that sounds very good and is extremely reliable; I bought it used maybe 20 years ago and it's never had a hitch.

I am a fan of Sony 5 disk changers. I have three of various similar models. I keep one in use, two as backups. I picked them all up for about $20. If the unit isn't a high end "ES" model, I too think you might just be saving a buck finding a similar one used as stated above.
 
Best bang-for-the buck Sony 5CD Carousel replacement (in my opinion) is the audio-dedicated SACD Sony SCD-CE595 or SCD-CE795, and will set you back about the same cost as a repair. You can also pick up one of their SACD "DVP" 5CD Carousel models for a little more. The Super-Audio CD players seem to do redbook better than most of their other (regular) cd players.
 
Just happened to be in thrift store and checked for CD Players....nothing but garbage. Chicago area may be way different from others. Not a good alternative.
 
For what it will cost for someone to repair yours you might cruise a few thrift shops or check on that auction site. I have a Sony 5-CD player and it's ok but has terrible isolation--the slightest jar will give it a conniption fit. I have a 200-CD Sony carousel player I got at Goodwill for $10, plus another one I found at the dump (needed a cord--works fine). I have a Pioneer 6-CD player (you load the CDs into a magazine, then load the entire magazine into the deck) that seems virtually impervious to vibration--also about $10 at Goodwill.

If you want to treat yourself to something upscale, the Yamaha CDX-730 is laden with features, has a variable output headphone jack, and Burr-Brown processors. I got mine for under $100 on the auction site.
 
I like also 5 CD player as an alternative to playlists. Visit picks up CD's from a modest library and I throw in similar CDs. It plays continuous while dinner or any other activities.
I like the X-change feature of Sony that permits CD loading without music stop.
My CDP CE-345 failed giving an error after reading all disks. Belt showed loss of elasticity and was changed. But it was not the cause of the Error.
Repair center gets rare and expensive ($85/hr).
So I also turned to thrift stores. They sell for around $70- but not always have the optical output that I find a lot better.
I manage to find a Sony analog model and also a Yamaha for $20- each on Marketplace.
Yes price are going down because of non-popularity.
 
Meh, any tine I walk into the thrift store theres at least 2 sony 5 cd carousel's on the shelf at 10-15 bucks.

I’ve got one in storage that we bought new way back when and current use a plain ol cdp-cx50. No remote, just rca’s out. 50 cd model, simple and very basic. Paid 10 bucks for it.

But a replacement laser for it is 150-180 bucks so if it dies, it’s outta here. Don’t want to trash it, but it just doesn’t make sense to fix it at those prices…

Sony CDP CE-345 restored!
I finally ordered new belts and realized there was a second belt. My unit did not open by the bottom. I had to dismount almost all boards to access. It was the cause of the Error display. I also came across a repair guy selling Sony parts (kind of stopping those repairs). Meanwhile, I bought a 5 DVD with optic output and better S/N ratio. A friend of mine bought my restored Sony. Happy ending!
