Got a Sony 630d today,don’t like Sony reel to reels but for 20.00 had to.dam thing sat for years,dirty as hell wood sides need to be
Cleaned up.heads black with crap.but it does power on and spins so that is a plus.first Sony have ever had,just don’t ess them.

Evaluate the heads first to make sure it's worth investing in. If the heads are worn out, toss it.
There will be 3 idler wheels plus the pinch roller that have to be sent to Terry's Rubber Rollers for rebuilding at $60 each, plus round trip shipping.
 
Sony had some really nice models and tons of mid-level models. I've got a few I really like, the TC-640 has a small footprint and looks sophisticated. I think the TC-377 was their best selling model, it's not bad but I'm not a fan of the wedge shape.

They had some field recorders that are off the hook cool, they were definately chasing Nagra. Like the higher-end decks, the field recorders are non-existant around here.

What don't you like about them?
