Sony APM-141ES with sqaure shaped drivers.

what is the story on them please? it says, Sony APM-141ES, made in Germany, t-8151-115-2sony APM-141ES.jpg
I just tried them out, they seem power hungry. Not a full spectrum sound, crystal clear mids are lacking I think, compared to my other set with 9"Airbornes and Philips tweeters. Not bad, a bit "stereo-ey" as opposed to crystal clear. Still not bad for $20 at the thrift shop. minor cosmetoc damage. look cool with the covers off.

I think one woofer is a dummy (the lower one), as the thing hasn't got a bass port :)
If you push the upper woofer inwards, you should see the lower woofer going outwards.

Tks for the reply, they do have a bass port in the back, and do not have passive radiators, there are 2 square speakers and the tweeter. Bw.
 
I bought a pair back in the 80's. 707's I believe. They had a woofer and passive radiator. They were actually very good. They lacked bass, for my taste at least but the highs were nice and crisp. The issue I had was the woofers were not durable which was probably more my fault than the speakers. I blew them a couple of times and they weren't cheap and they got hard to find. I ended up changing them out for traditional round woofers and they still live in my BIL's home. Back in the day they were 'cutting edge." Typical for Sony who always tried something different.
 
These are a 3 way, and just now tried them with a pure integrated Class A amp rated at .005%thd at 105W for 8 ohms, sound very good. serious power suckers, until the volume gets up, you really have to tweak the amp. once up, not too bad at all. The amp is a good room heater at a 3/4 volume, these are not efficient speakers but with the power behind them very reasonable, I think I'll keep them. The bass is really firm and good.

I have a pair of APM-101-ES which appear to be very similar except with only one bass driver and a ported cabinet about half the size. The same German tweeter appears to be used by other respected manufacturers and the crossover and general construction quality is fairly high. Unfortunately the foams rotted on mine and is harder to get due to the unusual shape so for now mine have replacement woofers.
 
I have a pair of APM's buried somewhere out in my garage. It's been so many years since I've had them connected to anything I can't recall what they sounded like. I've kept them just because they'd oddball speakers.
 
having a quick search, a saw (part of) a very vague schematic with both woofers being connected; hence, both are drivers.

so...... could you perhaps lift them and post some photos ?? :):)
Always curious so see yet another APM model details

PS: APMs with bass port on the back...... is a long way from the original APM series principle design. And in general Sony has mostly front bass ports. Having seen the dummy woofer as the bass reflex port on multiple other AV APM series, I thought this one would be too
